esoxluscious 44
the tench on a 3acre pond i fish have just recently woken from their winter sleep, none have been caught yet though. im going to start prebaiting a spot over the next few weeks, ive been using dynamites baits green betaine pellets with corn or maggots, on a running leger with a 18" to 24" braided hooklink and, float fished maggots over a bed of groundbait over the years and had some success, whats everybodys favourite mixes and rigs for a deep silty lake? Guest bullterrier
were i do most of my tench fishing ill arrive at the lake about 4.30 late afternoon and fish till about 9.oclock ill cup two big pots of feed pellets and fish a 6mm expander pellet over the top catching a few tench at the moment also as a change bait some meat not really a fan of sweetcorn also super glue a bit of sponge to a 2pence you now have a plumet that will not sink into the silt john Quote Link to post
esoxluscious 44
great tip on the plummet on a different lake i caught regularly on a soft hook pellet fished over the 3mm betaine green pellets however i dont think these tench would have ever seen a hook size pellet, would this be an issue? wouldnt be to keen on corn normally but this is unpressured water and it and maggots are all that have worked but this could be down to nobody looking outside the box Quote Link to post
Guest bullterrier
no harm in trying pellet to tell you the truth 95% of my fishing is done with pellet i had over 60 pound of f1s and bream today all caught on pellet even a late 17lb mirror you can get hard pellets for banding soft hookers and expanders that need pumping are good on the pole but if fishing rod and reel a little under arm cast will do as they dont cast well or use soft hookers Quote Link to post
bobby blackheart 1,209
shorten up those hooklinks-4 inch/6 inch of stiff coated braid/stripped back inch from hook and hair on method feeder works everytime-or you cant beat the lift method if you like your float fishing betaine pellets work well with crab/mussell boilies no bigger than 10mm/double up on hair prawn/mussell/cockles on the hook if float fishing-try them you may be suprised-also had lots on fake rubber baits over the years-trial and error-atb bobby Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
Ahh. That brings back memories. One of earliest recollections of fishing was tench fishing with a quill float flat on the surface and a couple of bits of sweetcorn about a foot below. Watching the quill right itself, glide across the surface then disappear. Back "in those days" a 2lb tench was a monster. 3 Quote Link to post

Cant beat it Walshie used to fish a place called Cicely Mill in Cheshire, very shallow silty lake, the tench went to double figures hit them on the float rod they took off like missiles very "spooky "fish....but well worth the wait Quote Link to post
