Just got a cocker only 6 weeks at moment ,mostly as a family pet ,but would like it to come with me for company and hopefully retrieve for me after some training .

I do. I've trained him to sit when I click my fingers to keep disturbance to a minimum and he often spots squirrels in trees before I do. Sometimes he's a liability but I can't leave home without him!
