Tail Docking Certificate ?

Recommended Posts

My wife got her new pup the other day - a JRT cross she's named Charlie- which turned out to have been bred in Ireland.

Anyhow, she took him to the vet today for his 1st jab and the vet went off on one - asking who docked his tail (done in Ireland), have we got a certificate and all that. She said if the police or ArsePCA stopped us and we couldn't produce a docking certificate, we could be prosecuted ! She went banging on for 10 minutes or more !

I'm not worried, but Mrs.Briar was very upset by the prospect of possibly losing one of her beloved little dogs.

To cut to the chase, where do we stand on this? If it's relevant Charlie is a pet, not a worker.

Your advice is appreciated, fellas !

IMO As long as you can prove it was bred in Ireland I don't think there would be a problem as the law only applies to England and Wales.

Anyway, who exactly is likely to ask you?

Our Ridgeback only has half a tail as it was broken and infected when she was a puppy, so it looks like Weimeraner's tails used to look. No-one has ever asked.

@Walshie - I have to say that was my initial reaction.

Surely the police don't give a flying f*** who docked our dog's tail (and ArsePCA are too busy pursuing pointless, expensive lawsuits anyway.) :hmm:

I got the same when i first took mine to the vets for her vaccinations, the vet was told to mind her own business. I've since used two other vet practices, had her looked over by a dog clinic at a show and her tail wasn't even mentioned

If anyone does ask, she came from abroad ;)
