redpat1 225
Hi guys I want to start brewing my own beer and I just don't know where to start, I have never done it before at all. I have looked on some home brew web sites and have found conflicting advice and it all seems pretty complicated. Any tips and links to decent sites would be appreciated. I am not looking to make lager but proper ale. Also, I guess the big question, Is it worth the effort? and of course is it cost effective? All positive replies gratefully received. Cheers Pat

redpat1 225
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+make+my+own+beer+at+home Cheers for the helpful reply. This was of course my first port of call but I wasn't sure if they were just trying to sell me a load of kit that will end up making a nasty brew. I thought that a site with this many members would have a good amount of experience in brewing and might be able to point me to a decent site. Come on fellas, I just want to know how to get hammered on the cheap with out resorting to meths again! lol Cheers Pat Edited April 30, 2013 by redpat1

antg 1,822
kit brew has come on a long way since the early days when boots kits was the norm. there's a vast selection to choose from and you can make beer as good and in many cases much better than what you get on tap at the local. coopers kits make a good reliable drink and the coopers stout is in a class of its own. really nice it is. Blackbriar 8,569
You could try any of the Woodforde kits ("wherry" is especially good). Use brew enhancer or spray dried malt in dark beers or brewing sugar in lagers, usually available where the kits are sold . They give the brew better flavour and a good strong body. Avoid using ordinary white table sugar, as the brew is very 'cidery' and wishy - washy. Give it a go, mate. It's really not as hard as you think. Good luck
