richie 1
I USE MY FERRETS ALL YEAR ROUND DUE TO THE SUCCESS I GET WITH THEM... THE ONLY PAIN IS THAT I HAVE TO GO THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THE PETROL TRIMMER TO CLEAR THE LAND. BUT THE REWARDS ARE WORTH IT. RICHIE Edited August 5, 2007 by richie Quote Link to post

Hob&Jill 258
I prefer to give the rabbits a closed season, I dont do it for pest control I do it for food and a fun. We at least owe them time to breed and have so good quality rabbit time lol If its pest control them fair enough, it has to be done. Digging up a nest of baby rabbits I wouldnt call 'sporting' not my idea of fun anyway. H&J Quote Link to post
gibby 0
I dont have a big enough freezer to keep enough rabbits to feed my ferrets all summer so I have to get them somehow. Most of the time I shoot them, but only enough to feed my ferrets. However when asked specifically for pest control in the summer I would take my hobs if its the most viable option Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
If i get asked to ferret them in the summer, i will and to get fert food. But, not as seriouse as the autumn/winter months. Frank. Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
i tend not to use my ferrets in the summer at all,if theres a pest control job i normally use other methods i.e shooting, trapping or snaring but i can fully understand the need for some people to ferret all yr round ! just keep at it Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
I ferret all year round because i am asked by the farmers but I cant say I enjoy summer ferreting Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Likewise, i prefer winter. Frank. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
We ferret once the crops are down, though we do run the long net out once in a while when we need a big batch of rabbits for the dogs during the summer: a lot of our land is landfill and waste type ground so there's not the grassland being eaten off as would be the case if we had a lot of livestock round us: apart from the common which we can't ferret anyway as the landowner doesn't want to see the general public get all upset at the sight of someone killing bunnies! Just have to lamp that and it's bad enough running that in the winter let alone the summer. Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
Summertime heat where I live is consistently 40+ degrees Celcius...my stinkers are uncomfortable doing anything but sleeping. Working them in conditions like that would kill them so I keep the ferreting for the cooler months. Rabbits are disposed of by other means. Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
If im asked and i can get into the burrows i will ferret ,but more often a easier option is lamping or snares or even traping the burrows you can get into and you can thin out other vermin with the mk6s Quote Link to post
