Lab 10,979
Where would you Utd fans think that Sir Alex will look to strengthen his squad? Won it pretty easily this year but it wasn't a great Utd season by the usual standards imo. I'm not sure! Get Falcao in, and hopefully Ronaldo. Get rid of Nani, as Malt says drop Rooney into midfield if he stays he needs to start earning his keep ASAP!! Defence wise it's all good, i think Evra might go and i'm a bit suspect on Buttner so maybe a new left back. Welbeck out on loan and Hernandez to Real Madrid. probably.... See that decision to drop Rooney back into mid-field i think that would be a bad bit of management in the long term. I can see why it could be beneficial in the short term maybe due to injuries or whatever but over a long period of time i think it would be wrong and i dont think Fergie will do that. He was ment to be some wonder kid, world class English striker and he is now getting dropped into mid-field..........why? Are you saying he is so good to get rid off that now you have to find him another position? His position is striker...if he no longer has the clinical finish then he should be moved onlike any other player that has run his course. Only my opinion as i dont watch much English football but that is my view in any team in any league.......... Why? Because he's not fit or good enough at this moment in time. A world class striker should be banging them in game after game, Rooney looks disinterested he's earning a massive wage and not really doing his job. He was class on Monday night and he played central midfield so good management i say...but i think Rooney will be gone this summer. The only saving grace would be if Ronaldo came back. Rooney would stay and get the kick up the arse he needs... So he had a good game....whoopy doo. I'm not buying that he is a world class mid-fielder as well as a world class striker....ffs he is not all that.... If he cant manage the job he is paid to do...score goals the he should be out the door. If he needs another player to come along to kick start his career again then he should be out the door. If i was at Man U and i was a mid-fielder and i wasn't getting a game because a "Rooney must play" attitude i'd be wanting away.....
Malt 379
Rooney is more than a striker IMO.. He's the most creative forward we've got, until we sign a genuine creative midfielder his talents are probably better served in midfield because he can see and deliver telling and accurate passes time and time again. No one in our current squad (apart from the injured Scholes, who won't be there for much longer..) can ping the diagnal balls out to the wings and into the forwards like he can. Carrick is a different sort of passer altogether and needs someone creative to play with IMO..
RubyTex 1,957
@ Labspastic I didn't say he was! I was saying, he was dropped to midfield and had a good game. But yeah i agree with you. He's getting a stupid wage and isn't doing his proper job! It's not a case of 'Rooney must play', if Fergie wanted to drop him he would without a second thought we haven't got any attacking midfielders who are as good as Rooney in that position therefore he fills in Edited April 24, 2013 by RubyTex

But as lab says, he is pretty much a failed striker and lets be honest, with the money your paying him, you'd get a far better midfielder than Rooney. Do you think he'd be paid what he is or be getting special treatment if he wasn't England's blue eyed boy?

He's scored or assisted 22 goals in 25 premier league games this season..
RubyTex 1,957
Failed striker
baw 4,360
If his best position is midfield instead of attack, do you think this would happen if he was a prolific goal scorer?

baw 4,360
We'd need to sell our stadium for his months wage lol
Malt 379
If his best position is midfield instead of attack, do you think this would happen if he was a prolific goal scorer?I don't think it is his best position, it's just we have ample options in attack and limited creativity in midfield.. Just because he can do a certain job better than others in midfield don't mean it's his best position.. I remember Fergie saying once that Rooney could play in any position and do a job, he even goes in goal in training from time to time and does well apparently!
baw 4,360
Besides Stewie, we make strikers good not buy them good. Ask a Man U fan about Brian Mclair or more recent larsson. I'd say to you dalglish but you were either not born then or were an arsenal fan at the time

But when you become one of them it usually means there are better than you in your chosen position and your just covering positions while the real player for that position is injured. Once all fit, its the bench. But hey, he is only one player, you won the league, don't know why you all get protective over him lol.
