Im familiar with a few of those names  although it doesnt make much odds to me as ive nothing to show this year

I think we have put together a good mix of judges who hopefully will support my mantra that we don't have to bring judges in from the UK to get fair, knowledgeable and unbiased judging!

I have amended the judges' list for Birr - our third Five Nations Lurcher Judge is Tommy Cullen from Wicklow.

I trust everyone will agree we have put a fine list of Irish judges together for our two fairs and I look forward to two great Terrier, Whippet & lurcher events.

A good selection of judges Albert, and all men from our own good soil, let's hope they are given the support these events deserve.

Nice to see both organisations getting on board and there advice being took on board.

It's just a pity there can't be a 'Five Nations Championship' for the whippets as well as the lurchers and terriers, are there any plans to include the whippets in the future? ;)

LJ, Traditionally the terrier & lurcher entries have been much higher and that is why we have FN championships. Have considered one for whippets but it depends on entries this year.

Sam,

Thanks - I think it is a well balanced team and as you say it is good to see the organisations starting to build a good public profile and where better - at Shanes and Birr.

I have had a couple of queries of judging of the Five Nations Championships. Firstly they are judged in the main arena at Birr on Sunday 1st September. First one the Terriers will take place at 5.00pm sharp. They are judged by three judges judging independently on the basis of a score sheet. No judge sees the other cards and not even the two scrutineers - one of whom usually is the Chairman of the Hunting Association of NI - who total up the cards know how each judge scored. In the event of a tie for Champion or Reserve - the three judges will then come together to decide. The final qualifier for each event is at Birr on the Saturday.

The Champion from 2012 Fiona Devlin's Maverick is assumed to be qualified to defend his title. In addition since 2011 Champion Paul Reid's dog was denied the opportunity to defend his title in 2012 through it being seized by the USPCA and PSNI, I am pleased to report that this was overturned by a judgement in Craigavon Court so I feel we should show our support for Paul by allowing him to be qualified, as of right, to compete in 2013.

If your dog is only beaten in a qualifying heat by Fiona's or Paul's dogs you can claim a qualifying place.

In terms of the Master Mc Grath - Pat Lee's dog is pre qualified as Champion. If your dog is runner up to Pat's dog in a qualifying heat you can claim a qualifying place in the final.

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
