Blackbriar 8,569
. Fook them both, its a Football Club so lets play football. Thats the spirit.............and thats Di Canio,s spirit................we all cry out for passion these days....well you wont see more than what he has to offer ! I agree ! At least he seems to have the courage to repeat his beliefs in public. Judge him on the results of the job he's paid to do - nothing else.

baw 4,360
He will fail. Why ?......Im just curious as to your reasoning.........seeing how he,s managed to get so far in such a short time so far. Hope he doesn't, we badly need characters like him. A few reasons why I don't think he will succeed. He might start off brightly, new managers generally do. But it's normally after a manager has left or sacked cos they've ran out of ideas, got too settled and mundane etc, this isn't the case here with Martin oneil. Ok, never had Robbo but you can guarantee he was trying his best and his man management skills are second to none. Can a rookie like dicanio do it better, very much doubt it. It's ok saying dicanio has a strong character but you've seen how hungry the press are for something to write about since the chosen one left these shores. Difference is, he was a proven manager and could handle the pressure. Yes dicanio had pressure when he played with his flamboyant temperament but he could answer his critics by doing it on the field. Bit different kicking every ball in a dugout knowing every poor result will be magnified and scrutinized. The pressure will be too much and at a club that's willing to sack a manager of Oneils stature, doesn't bode well. The jobs simply too big for him at this time. The pressures already pilling on before a balls been kicked. Can he handle pressure while failing? Will he be allowed the time to prove he can? Does he have the skills to deflect the pressure from the players. Where I'm sitting his arrival has added off field pressure that is far from needed. It might creat a siege mentality but that only really happens if the club and players are the ones getting attacked. Not some arrogant prick who looks down on everyone. gnasher16 31,602
Fair enough ..............only reason i asked is i cant see one single " footballing " reason why he shouldnt do well...........he has a very good understanding of the game both in England and Europe,is very hands on in his coaching methods....and is a very charismatic young manager proven to get the best from players. The sad truth is what you have said Baw......reasons nothing to do with football will be the biggest hurdle he faces !..........Personally i think he will do better in a country that doesnt desperately crave things to be offended by !!!.............but i certainly hope he does well. Agree with all of that gnash. He will get hounded, I've seen it with Lennon up here. The press want to see him fail big style. Lennon started like dicanio probably will, losing the plot at bad decisions etc. the press loved that. It is sad that it'll be the non footballing pressures that get to him. Lennon was allowed time but he's Celtic through and through. I can't see dicanio getting the same respect. Hope he makes it though, I can see him ending up at your club sooner rather than later then the siege mentality will bond the club and help him
gnasher16 31,602
I never thought of the Lennon thing yep its a good comparison................hopefully with Sunderland only being a little club he,ll go under the radar in a few weeks when it all calms down...............................then it will all start up again in a few years when he comes to the mighty Hammers

Hopefully he does well and more importantly gets a bit of luck along the way.But if it all does go wrong you'll probably see him slipping down the ranks going from worse club to worse club....fingers crossed he lands up at West Ham a good bit down the line for you mate...;-) lol

Leagues pretty much won, no English teams in the CL, Dicanio is prime back page headlining material. Even when Lennon did good the least wee thing like shouting at a ref etc, was blew up and made headline news. Lennons a direct character just like Dicanio, as I say, unless he's at your club, he doesn't stand a chance.
