3 Turns 326
ALRIGHT TROOP,S INHERITED A DOG A FEW WEEK,S PAST. WHICH WAS KENNELED NEARLY ALL ITS LIFE ITS 15/16MTH OLD. IT WAS IN BAD SHAPE PHISICALLY AND MENTALLY IN MY EYE,S SO IVE PUT NONE STOP WORK INTO IT THIS PAST FEW WEEKS. MY 1ST GOAL WAS TO PUT SOME WEIGHT ON TO HER AND TRY TO CONDITION HER AS HER MUSCLES WERE LIKE PUTTY. HER DIET CONSISTS OF 1 SMALL FEED IN THE MORNING SARDINES AND MEAT 1CUP OF R/MILL,S. AND A KNUCKLE FROM THE BUTCHERS. 9/10 AT NIGHT AFTER HER LAST WALK SHES ON 3 CUPS/R/MILLS VEG INCLUDING POTATOES/ MEAT AND 3/OZ OF BUTCHERS DRIPPING. HER DAILY EXCERSISE IS 2MILES IN THE MORNING WITH 30MINS FREE RUNNING. THEN INTO THE PORTA MAG FOR 1HR AT NUMBER 4. OVER THE LAST 3WEEKS SHE,S BEEN GETTING STRONGER/FITTER/FASTER.ALSO ON SUNDAY,S I LET HER HAVE A FEW SPINS AT THE LURE . STEADILY HER MIND SET WAS CHANGING FOR THE BETTER. LAST NIGHT I TOOK HER OUT WITH LAMP WHERE I SHOWED HER THE BUNNIES FOR THE 1ST TIME . SHE WAS BOUNCEING OUT HER SKIN SO I LET HER RUN . VERY UNLUCKY BUT WAS SUPER KEEN. 2 PARKS LATER I HAD 1 IN THE CLAMP 6FT AWAY,UP IT GOT AND I LET HER HAVE ANOTHER GO . SHE WAS ON IT IN A FLASH ,NEVER EVEN TURNED IT AND PICKED UP AND RETRIEVED BACK TO 10FT AWAY LIVE UNTIL MY MATES PUP ROBBED HER OF IT. GAVE HER A 3RD RUN AND SHE SCOOPED IT WITHOUT BREAKING HER STRIDE LIKE A PRO AND STRAIGHT IN WITH IT UNTIL IT WAS ROBBED ONCE AGAIN BY MY MATES D/G PUP. HOPEFULLY IN 2/3 MTHS SHELL HAVE MATURED INTO A PROMISING WORKING DOG. KEEP YOU POSTED. I KNOW THE SEASONS NEARLY OVER BUT HAD TO LET HER HAVE AGO.LOL Quote Link to post

Guest vin
well done on you mate taking a dog on like that.. been there myself 2 times now.....Never again..lol. just a word of advice from someone who learned the hard way... Run the dog on its own next time out..dont let your mates pup anywhere near the dog when its learning the ropes..it could set you back a long way with the retreive to hand. ..if the pup wants a little go do it with a dog thats already knows the game and wont be put off by a puppy trying to steal its catch. good luck and all the best Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,247
well done with the dog and good luck with it and tell your mate to keep his dog on the lead 1 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Vin's spot on with his advice, run it on it's own for a bit, get the 'feel' of each other, develop a bond and when you do return to running in company, single slips with each dog tethered..!! Quote Link to post
tote 857
Well done 3Turns for giving the bitch a chance and putting the work in. As has been said I'd take her out on her own, it would give her confidence without the distractions and help to build a bond between you. But if you are out with your mate and his dog steals the bitches rabbit give yer pal a crack. 2 Quote Link to post
