Whippet X Deerhound

Recommended Posts

What do you believe the potential benefits from this breeding to be?

Good coat, feet, better wind, size, and if my experiance is owt to go by eyes and brain too, though tbh 3/4 whippet /1/4 DH would imo be better for todays game, apart from that, nowt, , atb, buster.

You would be using 2 extremes of running dog dont make sense to me.

Weasle, the DH X GH used to be the most commonly used Hare dog in my youth and for 2 good reason's, they were good at their job and we didnt have the use of good Saluki blood that you do these days, the law being what it is these days i can see a use for the Whippet X DH as a good rabbiting hound, especialy if bred down to the right size, the DH seems to have gone out of favor, maybe the right blood isnt available, who knows, interesting topic though, atb, buster.

Same in my part of the Country, most Lurchers had a bit of Deerhound in them, and a few ran 3/4 Collie greyhound.

The collies used were all border, never seen any then with Beardie,

A lot of the breeding was Lurcher to Lurcher, although some claimed to have a bit of Bedlington, but I had never seen one.

Saluki crosses were rare.

the Exchange and Mart back then was full of supposedly deerhound X Greyhound.

Would you not be better say using a whipxgrey 23-24" and bring the size down gently and getting a even litter. Seems to me whippxdh is just trying to do it all in one go, and hoping for the best?

Yes you would mate, cant disagree with that, 22" would make my ideal rabbiting dog, cant get permission with bigger dogs these days, atb, buster.

 Yes 23" is a size i like, never wanted or needed anything over 24 tbh.Not only perfect for the bunnies well able for what ever eles jumped when it was allowed.Without the land owners becoming worried for there bullocks.

I wouldnt want to end up with a 19" dog with the bone of a dh though :D Some might like the stats 'heres my dog 19"47lb"
