WILF 51,773
No I think he wants to get his site to the top of Google search not host ads on his site. First of all, I would ask myself why do you need it at the top? Could you not use your site in conjunction with a targeted email campaign which will lead the type of customers you want to your site......at a extremely small fraction of the cost. My pal pays £500 a week to have his site come up first on google when people search for his chosen business....do you have £500 a week to do this or will your business generate £500 a week in extra PROFIT to cover it? Ratreeper 441
I used to work for Google and do the PPC for the company I work for now, what do you want to know? Just roughly how it works so you can tell if you are being messed around? Without knowing what your business is I can't comment much on strategy, but if you go to an agency then look out for a Google qualified logo on their site, which means they have passed an exam to prove they know the basics (GAP exam). It should also have a number showing how many employees are qualified, if they don't have this then don't even call them because it's only £50 to do so they aren't likely too serious about iadwords without it. Most companies charge about 10% of your budget to manage the account, stay well clear of any 'packages' like you mentioned for £150 etc because that isn't going to drive enough traffic and they might pocket £100 of it anyway. If they tell you they have any 'special relationship' with Google or have any special software or even that they 'buy keywords' then tell them to do one, I used to have to train some of these people and the lies they tell used to wind me up and I refused to work with many. What's your website?

Personally I think your money would be better spent going through all your old invoices, putting the names and addresses on a database and doing a mail shot to them every month.....that and the good old phone just letting them know you have moved. I don't know a single person who looks on line in the first instance for such work, they will always ask mates first.....they only look online for that as a last resort........garages live off word of mouth because no one trusts them if they don't know them or at least someone who they know, knows them. Some nice big signs around the area of your workshops would be money better spent IMHO

Some nice big signs around the area of your workshops would be money better spent IMHO Bang on advice Wilf.... I gave up on yell and the google cons a while ago.... Our business merged a year ago meaning a name change, our old business had ran for 15 years but it was time to grow, a mate done my website for me and we attached it to all our emails, all our customers were called, the vans were sign written, some decent boards and the good old telephone and hard work... You've got to sale yourself, being at the top of google can be costly and gain nothing... Word of mouth and good recommendations are still without doubt the best Especially in the motor trade, building etc ...... Like yourself I had a decent customer base but needed to grow it, plug yourself at every opportunity mate.....Good luck to you Edited because of my bloody I phone, lol Edited March 9, 2013 by NEWKID
