I have just noticed my Stafford had ripped hers a little it's bent to the side I know this is for running dogs but I guessed u guys no about paws

She is licking it bad I will go vets and get it removed but do u guys think the dogs need them or cope ok with out them

I don't even no how she has done it its just bent to the side and a bit of blood if I wrap it up see if will heal I bet she will just catch it again but do I get them both off or just one

I use my dogs in weight pull comps I don't wont to mess her grip up but not much I can do now is there ??

Cheers in advance

Ok cool so you think it will be fine and not cruel it's coursing her a bit a bit of bother at the min tbh

She ain't a normal staffy thou she is kept very fit works as hard as any working dog in her own right I take her bushing and even lamping lol but I don't want her to be always in sick bay because of the claw prefer to just get it chopped I would do it my self if I didn't think I would make it worse I hate having my pants down at the vets lol I know they rob you but somtimes u have to just pay the bill to be fair to the dog

Is it the nail that's damaged or the toe? If it's the nail just cut all the nail off with some nail clippers it will grow back fine. You will get a yelp and a lot of blood. Have a bar of soap handy and run it on the nail it will stop bleeding. Then just keep it clean and forget it and it will be fine mate atb

They will, but it will be under general anaesthetic and cost you. If the dog is prone to damaging them then get them off, if this is just a one off then leave the dew claws on, but you'd be better just snipping the broken claw right off. It will heal more quickly and not cause her as much pain after the first yelp.

If it is just the nail i would cut it back,if the toe ,and you decide to have it off, I would get him to do the other one as well, that way you are only paying for one anaesthetic.

Cheers guys

It looks like just the nail but right in the end is thst classed as toe lol

So what sort of clippers work the best gotta be strong I would imagine I best make sure it's defo 1st cut I don't want to hack at the poor girl I had some shit hot clippers but gave them away as walkingd keeps them trimmed

It's just a one off well not happened before to her

A muzzle will probably be a good idea as even the best tempered dogs dont like you cutting the nail completely off , make sure you have good sharp clippers and cut the nail as close to the toe as possible. It will bleed a fair bit and a septic pen from any chemists will stop the bleeding in a few seconds maybe upto a minute , septic pens are what the old boys used to use when they cut themselves shaving
