Lab 10,979
Loved Decanio..........hero of mine. Never got to see him play like, never had a season ticket then but he was some talent. Could have passed it a bit more like but a Legend at Celtic Park....

Never got to see him play like, never had a season ticket then but he was some talent. Could have passed it a bit more like but a Legend at Celtic Park.... A legend after 20 games I saw things in Dicanio i had never previously seen on a football pitch......aside from his obvious skill and talent..........his burning desire and absolute will to win......lack of fear to put his neck on the block......walk the walk kind of thing...was something i really fell for......certainly not a hero worship by any means, but definately a deep respect for the mentality of a competitor at the highest level.......never before or after have i seen a footballer with the mental strength passion and loyalty that Dicanio showed to West Ham......to turn down Alex Ferguson because in his own words " i cannot trade my loyalty to these people ".....speaks volumes for him not as a footbller but as a man.................he really embraced this area and the area embraced him back....... " The Paolo DiCanio Lounge " will live forever

He's an arrogant prick but hey ho, good at what he does.

gnasher16 31,602
You ever met him gnash? He's an arrogant prick but hey ho, good at what he does. Met him a few times Baw the Dicanio lounge is in the same part of the ground i go and he would often come to games before he got back into the game himself........never had a one to one sit down chat with him like but been in the same company a few times i found him very well mannered, respectful etc.....quite a charmer really think my mrs would of f****d me off for him at the drop of a hat but i reckon that was just the accent One thing i thought shone through with him is a real hunger for success not just football but id imagine he,s a very driven person in anything he does and doesnt stop until his goal is reached..............quite admireable really.................the day will come when he,ll manage West Ham...... even if its not yet....its destined to happen one day. WILF 51,356
You mention that you see him as a very driven person and I think you hit the nail on the head mate, I think his work ethic was well known amongst players......my pal used to do work at Charlton Aths training ground when PDC went there and he said you would always see the man doing sprints and training on his own long after the rest of the players had f****d off home.........
gnasher16 31,602
I think thats why he,s had the fall outs with players that he has.......i think he just genuinely doesnt understand how a player wouldnt give 110% he expects his players to have the same attitude and will to win he has......he certainly manages how he played...fully committed, massive desire along with a fair chunk of ability
