esoxluscious 44
hows it going lads? anybody have any good links or know of a good book for a first time gardner? my biggest obstacle is my back 'garden' is of a good size but completely stoned over! all growing will have to be in pots/planters etc, i would like to grow the basics, potatoes, tomatoes, chilli's and strawberrys to start but my condenser boiler is outside in the garden, will the fumes/vapour contaminate the veg? also think ill need to start the chillis soon? desertdog 149
get your ground ready for spuds,1st earlys, start them chitting, and get them in end of march, and you,ll start eating them in june.
tegater 789
Rocket and aron pilot both good. If you don't have soil grow them in 17litre black polythene pots, they are much cheaper than these potato bags you see advertised. After potatoes are chitted plant them 4 inches deep and just cover them. As the shoots grow keep topping up with more compost so they are just covered until eventually the pot is full. Ready end of June. Use some vitax q4 or similar in the compost. (High bonemeal)

The one 8,585
I just got 15 recycling bags off the guys at work for my spuds and eight mineral lick tubs off the farmer for my veg as the same as you my gardens all slabbed for the dogs only problem you have to water them every second day
terryd 8,941
Yea the only problem with containers is the constant watering especially the smaller ones. Spuds did very well though and I used any old bag the ones you get compost in work well. and I also didnt notice a massive increase in crop by using a bigger container. Salad stuff did well and pole-star runners did great. I never had any luck with the peppers and stuff though
