I had a kelpie cross that was given to me from a pet home as they dint want her, that hadbeen trained not to chase and i had same problem as you.... the only way i got her to chase was to take both my lurchers out in the daytime and when they marked a rabbit in cover i had to jump in and bolt it, when the rabbit bolted i had chased the rabbit whilst calling the new dog and trying to get her excited..... after 4 or 5 she goes she didnt need to help.

Also try to do this where no farmers/walkers can see you, it looks proper amateur! Worked for me and she turned into a very good catcher of most things :)

thanks for all the positive comments guys, its something Ive never had to deal with before normally have to hold em back lol. Im determined to give her a fair crack and Ill get her going if it kills me. She is still very playful and the times when she has run up the side of the other bitch all shes trying to do is play. As has been said giving her time will work hopefully.

Anyway here is the bitch in question

when you have tryed her is the other dog there mate try her on her own i had a young dog did the same but when took out on its own just me and the dog it started to run them worth a try or as said wait for the switch to flick on because it will belive me hope she goes for you .atb

Did yours just stand and watch mate? I've had dogs run half hearted, not taking the lead in a chase but stand and watch?

yes mate just stood there no lead on it but i started taking the dog on its own and it went on its own think it was scare of the other dog being there but it made a good lamp dog when it did switch on at about 17 month old took a bit of time but was worth it .atb

The dogs bright!!!! What's the point in wasting energy when another dog can do the donkey work n she can trot up and take the prey..........

Stop taking them out together and eventually the penny will drop....

I see what you mean but when you are having to travel to your permission it becomes a pain in the arse if after travelling and then trapsing the fields the dog doesnt chase, it would be different if you had plenty of rabbits on your doorstep. I guess if all else fails then I will have to but Ill keep plodding on getting her out as much as possible. I'll keep everyone posted on her progress

Iam not saying it anit bright. BUT id be thinking lack of prey drive rather than too bright if it was me.... Even if that is the case its prey drive anit very high for a youngester imo Woz....

Too ady id just stick with it fellah till she matures that bit more, Likes been said hopefully the penny will drop and she'll click.... Atb with her lets us know how she gets on either way

Going to stick with her and hopefully she will come good in the end, going to get her out on her own tonight and see what response I get from her. She is very different to the other bitch with her if it moves its fair game attitude, and as Ive said before most of the dogs Ive owned or seen have needed holding back if anything.

It seems that everything is be branded as prey drive.defense drive.drive drive drive..it isn't always the case..none of can say without seeing the dog working and at home..the op said the dogs obiedent and has ball drive (prey drive) ...I thought more along the lines of the dynamic of the pack rather than any other issues???....I'm full of great buzz words and could just be talking total shite...lol

you may have something there Woz re. the dynamics of the pack as she is very submissive when it come to the older bitch even tho the older one isnt aggressive in any way towards her so it could be that maybe she doesnt think its her place to be chasing if the other bitch is present. I maybe just over analysing it who knows
