i agree nog, some of the hardest gamest best working dogs i have ever seen have been also some of the most docile and humble when not working. You are quite correct in what you say imo.

Nothing worse than a fighter in your kennel's always on edge and upsets the balance, everybody always say's give it load's of work i think its part true that and part myth if a dogs a fighter its a fighter and i would say its 50/50 on the owner to blame some are just plain idiots and were born idiots some are ruined by people how they rear them lack of socialisation etc as a pup and if a dog is a fighter its a fighter ive yet to see 1 broken with load's of work if it's just an out and out fighter if anything i just think it tip's them over even more  at 18 mths it will be a tough job to correct it but it's worth a try i would have it on a lead and correct it with a hose pipe myself everytime it went for another dog  but if it's a timid animal correcting it that way aint gonna do any good it's hard to know without seeing or knowing the dog it's temprement and it's your call your the 1 thats gotta live with it correct it or bury it seem's the right way to me

I was out on a rough shoot yesterday and saw spaniels getting over exctied and snapping, but i think thats more of a dominance thing, not pure agrression trying to get at anything with 4 legs and a fur coat.

It's his risk though and he is the 1 that has to put up with it so its his call really aint it  the best terrier i ever had was a biter he was not dog aggresive you really had to watch your hands when you lifted him when you broke through and if he was tied of somewhere while another dog was working there quarry below he had to be away from people as he was as likely as grabbing your leg as he was looking at you me included  i would of shot the dog if he wasnt so useful but he was my cross to bare nobody else's

In the years ive had terriers, ive had two fighters that drove me fecking mad . One a dog that was the worst kind of fighter ,no niose ,no warning ,just latch on given the chance .He was an outstanding earth dog however ,never letting me down which really was his only saving grace, nasty b*****d .Tried him over a bitch ONCE and he savaged her so NEVER BRED FROM HIM .Walked him alone at night on the lead and learnt to live with it .

The other was a bitch that hated other bitches of any breed that also earned her keep as an all rounder but was a liability off lead. Both were of Nuttal breeding originally which ive now steered away from slowly .

One thing very noticeable was the calm in kennels once they were gone and thats how it is today .

The fighting side of them could be lived with as im quite easy going myself but some lads would be severely annoyed by it to the point of parting company .

Only you can decide whether the dog is worthy of a place despite his temperament .

It's been my experience that MOST of these issues can be corrected. Especially with an eighteen month old dog. Sometimes you have to get down on their level so to speak.....sometimes you have to stomp a mud hole on their a**es and walk it dry a few dozen times. There are terriers that just like to bleed, and don't care how they get there, and for whatever reason.... will fight another dog as quickly as anything else.. But most can be convinced who is the boss....those that can't.... can't. Seems like certain bitches take a disliking to eachother.... and come hell or high water.... they'll find a way to ruin the day if you let them. The only one size fits all cure for dog fighters is to cull them..... most hunters prefer this method for obvious reasons. A dog that is fighting isn't hunting..... and a dog that is hunting isn't fighting right?

I will say that old fasioned methods of trash breaking a dog work amazingly well if you take that approach with the two offenders, and really put your heart and soul into it. A Tritronics Trashbreaker will also leave a lasting impression on a terrier. But like I said to each his own, and the only sure fire way to make a dog stop fighting is to cull it. If the dog is a really good one.... maybe it's worth trying something else first.

in all honestly its easy to post shoot it on here ......................aggresive dogs can be sorted (not all of them) theres reasons behind it and i find it hard that people saying shoot it would simply do that if it was there own ...............................i mean there are some good working dogs who need there own kennel due to other dogs.....................but there kept because of there working ability......................

each to there own but choosing the easy way by shooting it ..................................isnt the answer in my opionion i would try and sort it out.................

lots of people keep dogs like this and alot of them only see an earth and there travel box and there kennel...............i think the decision you need to make is ....................if it is an outstanding worker ....................can you keep the dog as it is..................

you may find that doing alot of work will change its attitude......................a mate of mine keeps two dogs that cant share a kennel and cant see each other out side of the kennel ,......................they simply want to kill each other...........

but he manages fine keeping them seperate and lets them out on there own ...........................in fact one of them is no good with alot of dogs.....................but because its work is pleasing to him he wont shoot it.......................

alot of these high drive terriers just need work ,work and work.....................

before you make your decision just make sure its kenneled on its own..............think about it before doing anything rash......................good luck........

shoot it may sound harsh but at 18mth you wont change it plenty of work or not, there a liability and not nice to be around, always tension when out with other dogs, there not worth the hastle.
