Teaching Bitch To Strike

Recommended Posts

Ey up all

So have been out a fair bit with my 18 month saluki x whippet ferreting. She's had a good few runs on rabbits now, upwards of 20. However, though she's managed to catch most of them, she doesn't really strike properly. She'll grab and let go, chase it down again, put her paw on it, and then once it stops moving she just lets it up again etc etc

Anyone any ideas how I can get her more focused and doing the job properly? I'm starting to wonder if she'll get there.

she is striking no prob there, as she as got 20 rabbits as you say. She not killing thats the differnce, she is playing with them, thats why she lets them go.! Even if she was soft mouth she would hold them there, (no) she is playing with them . Her prey drive not come out or its not strong in her, because at 18 months old she should be showing more full on to hunting. Try as been said with another dog there it might switch her on more with the other dog there, it does help my pup been out with my older dog alot of times, and it does fire them up a bit, he knows what rabbits are lol try another dog with her it might work
