reddawn 2,173
Is it only myself that thinks a rabbit has clocked a few nets on the entrances and turned back resulting in them finding a hole without a net? I watch year in year out as rabbits pop there head out touching the net to go back down, (Usually to find some fangs not far behind.) Bolters always seem to find the sneaky holes on the fringes though. I reckon rabbits think twice about bolting sometimes when they see a net, think the fine gauge nets help in these situations. deffo, iv even seen bunnys run past some holes an bolt out others close by, surely they should have exited by the closest hole?? but maybe the light has summat to do way them seeing the net against the sky?? i aint got an exact answer, but im pretty sure bunnys either use prefered holes to bolt, or they can see nets on some of the holes an choose to either face the ferret or try for another hole, we have seen it a few times this season alone Quote Link to post

One rabbit we missed dived into a nearby warren. within seconds the rabbit bolted out and made good is escape. Our theory was the same as yours. Sometimes they completley bypass the safety of another warren aswell 1 Quote Link to post

patterdalejoel 669
one day we went out and only ferreted warrens we saw rabbits run down or that the dog put them to ground in. and every single warren had at least one other rabbit in it apart from the one we saw go down, often more than one. they were only going down warrens with other rabbits in, bypassing what i assume were empty warrens. one big one we did without nets and just the dog had about 7-8 more in it. we did bolt the rabbit we saw go down about 3 times though.
