J.DOG 1,355
I can safely say I've never shot a hare and never will. It's a waste to me, utter waste. A hare should be given fair law, in season and daylight. Anything else isn't form. I truly struggle to understand how any dog man can condone shooting hares nevermind shooting them. I have shot hares with my 22 only enough to count on your hands , but I dont really enjoy it I just did it if I was in need of ferret grub and there weren't any bunnys around but I'm not a fan of shooting hare at all rabbits I shoot often on land were a dog couldn't catch snd enjoy it but still prefer the dogs Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
baw ime with you on the shooting them big no no to me . but there are dogs out there that can do the threes fives and more ive had three in my lifetime that could do the numbers daytime one was a deerhound greyhound bought as a pup of dave platt the second was a saluki irish terrier that on the last day before the hunting ban caught five out of eight and caught her fifth on her eightth run and the dog i got now out of jj and izzie . but i gotta say ive had quite a few that couldnt catch a hare in a phone booth lol. but they never stayed with me long.the most i have seen caught single handed was eight and there were twenty of us out that day that saw him do it the same man caught nine the following week with the litter sister to thedog that caught eight .and although i didnt see it that day because i was working there were plenty that did and some are members on here .the days i am talking about all the hares had to be given fair law and big starts .good days they were . Rabbithunter 456
Ive heard lads saying there Jack Russel's could catch a hare on the lamp not so sure about that. Hares on the lamp, can be a tough task especially if you were getting a 'grueller' or two. But said that, some do 'kill themselves' by doing stupid thungs like running into a fence, gate, or my favourite, a size 9 welly. We never ran hares for 'sport' just numbers, the more we got, the more ££ we got. Dint get me wrong, we never made a living out of it, but it covered the diesel. I used to love getting in.a field, quick run, and away to feck, hated the 'long runs'. To summarise, it was much easier & safer to get out & bag a few hares, with a 'dazzler' 2 Quote Link to post
