newcomer88 86
Hi I have a 15 week old bull x pup , fairly heavy on his feet as you can imagine at the minute , his left leg all of a sudden today has stated to splay outward at the knuckle as opposed to inward , really really concerned as he look to be limping a little , what's odd is there is no inflammation heat or clear discomfort ?? It's really done my head in just wondered if anybody else has experianced this or seen it before .... Just praying he isn't f****d for running .... Any sensible advice welcome , going to try vet tommorow cheers Quote Link to post

tote 870
Could it be what they call "knuckling over"? http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADFA_enGB403GB403&q=knuckling+over+in+puppies Quote Link to post
newcomer88 86
Tote absolutely spot on , that is what it looks like , apparently caught early enough it's mendable ?? Do you know much more about this ?? Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Tote is spot on. It has happened to pups I have had in the past. Look at the diet your pup is on, with dried food, if the protein level is high, first off, reduce that. Also, when it happens prevent to much movement on the legs. I used a cage. As soon as the food was changed I seen a difference in my pup BUT I made sure that free running and exercise was kept to short bursts with plenty of rest for a few weeks. Quote Link to post
newcomer88 86
Ok , brilliant he is on quite a high protein diet I guess , I'll bring that down bring him in and just steady walking , did you ever use vet wrapping ?? I've seen this on a website , allso a splint it's not that bad at the minute but it's noticeable moreso after he's been in the garden playing , allso the big question , did the pups recover fully for running ?? Iv got a bull that had it as a pup, I changed his food to one with less protein to slow the growth rate until it sorted itself out. Knuckling is caused by the bones, tendons etc growing at different rates causing the bowing shape. If I was you I'd go vets to be sure. Quote Link to post
newcomer88 86
Did you wrap his legs ?? And how did it run after ? I'm bringing mine indoors in a cage to rest him completely Quote Link to post
j1985 1,984
No just changed his food and rested him mate, week or two and it was fine. Quote Link to post
j1985 1,984
It's fairly common in larger dogs I believe. Quote Link to post
newcomer88 86
Ive only just noticed it yesterday , it only seemed to start bothering him last night , did it affect his running when he was older ?? Quote Link to post
