jesus i seriously struggle to have any empathy for a capable adult who wants to sit in a fecking nappy & crap themselves , I just find that part of it very patronizing, having worked as a carer & worked with people who were mentally sound but doubly incontinent & how degrading for a man in his 70's to have a person change & clean them up & how bad it is for a lot of people in care homes

i know words are cheap, but if ever i need someone in my old age to wipe my arse and feed me.then thats the time to check yourself out.

To be honest when the persons suffering something like dementia it is a little easier, but when you get a man that worked hard all his life & is compus mentus .. but physically unable to care for themselves .. its soul destroying for the client & the carer . dignity stripper aint the word

I loved the job sadly my body didnt , its physically demanding work , but if i could find a home with minimal lifting then i would jump at the chance to do it again,

I had one client on my list who was a firey old bugger , he was a nightmare , I learned very quickly how to dodge walking frames  I knew he was on his way out when the fire went out of his eyes , & he held my hand & said thank you when i tucked him into bed , he was dead a week later

The most rewarding job I have ever done , crap pay , long hours , physically & mentally demading, but if you can make one person feel safe & cared for , warm & contented then the rest dont matter
