MrsChamp606 553
The little man has just broken mullers record that has stood since 1972, he has scored 86 goals in a calendar year! Got to be red hot favourite for the world player of the year for a record 4th time. Surely he is the best ever....... Would he need to win a World Cup to be classed with pele and marradonna? lukey 1,621
Wouldn't think so mate, hardly his fault he aint won the world cup. What a player even my woman who hates football loves watching him!
gnasher16 30,822
Fantastic.......no i dont see why he would have to win a world cup......Pele won world cups but never played at the highest level in club football......Maradona i wouldnt put in the same league as Messi..............Ive said for a few years now Ronaldo and Messi are the best players ive ever seen live........and still not sure i could split them but Messi,s record will probably put him out in front now.
lanesra 4,007
Maradona best I've seen though Messi is a close 2nd ! His goals this yr prove how good he is with or without a World Cup !
mushroom 13,648
The guy is a legend! Carried off the other day, back on today popping them in. They love him round here and I mean LOVE him
boy1 1
Just wandering how effective he would be playing outside of barcelona, doesnt seem to click with argentina, and thats not due to a lack of talent through the argentian team....not singing ronaldo's praises but he did it at utd and is doing it at real..
events co-ordinator 353
You cannot compare cokehead Maradonna with Messi
Lab 10,979
I would say maradonna is every bit as good as messi. There both geniuses with a ball at there feet, hard to compare them as they played at 2 very different times in football. One of the best players I had the privilege of watching was Kaka.....I remember him being immense at Parkhead one night. Oh and to go and watch Larsson week in week out up and down the country was different class....:-)
lanesra 4,007
You cannot compare cokehead Maradonna with Messi Maybe later in his career but in his prime he was The Best In The World , and you can only do that in your own Era and Maradona was certainly the Best in his prime , maybe in 30 yrs others will be having a view on Messi and the best talent then ! bracken boy 584
i saw johan crueff he was class, as a utd fan ronaldo is world class but 2nd best player in the world, got to say messi is on another planet, also another world class player who played on bumpy pitches and still had ball clued to his feet, would be worth mega millions today the legend georgie best
baw 4,360
I rate messi above maradona. Both class acts and would fill any stadium in Britain just to watch them train. Maradona played in an era when players were slower and defenders were big ugly, hard b*****ds. Would he be as good in modern times? He'd still be class but messi class, I don't think so. As for messi playing in maradonas era, defenders have tried booting him off the park, double marking him, man to man marking, nothing works so i reckon hed dominate maradonas era too. Until the Barcelona v benfica game, he had played the 90 minutes of every game he started and I don't think missed a game in the last 5 years at Barcelona. Just something I heard while we were playing them so might be wrong. To think, rangers almost signed him on loan under mcleish lol

In Maradons day it was a lot more Physical and I mean Alot more than today's game , Every single incident in today's game is shown daily where as Maradonna Era we never had the coverage , would Messi come to England this summer and turn say Aston Villa into Premier league Champions ?? Cause that's similiar to what Maradonna did at Napoli , at the time Italy was the Best league in Europe , both World class in there own rights !
baw 4,360
Well put Lanersa but drugs are easier to come by today too than in maradonas day lol. Wee messi was at the madam after we beat them at paradise. He had a dummy in his sock which he was gonna suck to dedicate his goal to his new baby. It stayed in his sock when he got a consolation goal lol. He must have been sucking it all night himself when he spat it out the next day saying Celtic only won cos our players are bigger!!! Best team in the world beaten cos we had bigger players lol. No messi, we won cos we scored 2 goals to your 1 you can have all the possession in the world, it's goals that count
lanesra 4,007
My mate is Celtic Crazy , anyway on the day off the game I was txtin him trying to wind him up ect , after the game and the Great Win by Celtic I expected a fare bit of stick , he replied deadly serious "Does this win mean where now the best team in the World" ? Lol .
gnasher16 30,822
Baws right i think with Messi apart from his obvious high level of ball skill he has great basic qualities as well.....simple things like a real desire to play in every game....great physical toughness for such an intricate little performer.............I dont think Maradona had anywhere near the mental quaities of Messi in todays game there would be too many distractions for him.....he made average teams great and was a great player but i wouldnt put him in the top 4 or 5 of all time id put Messi Ronaldo Pele Best all above Maradona...................................................................and Julian Dicks of course
