hi all.

 

Went out last fiday morning on a new permission to ferret a few warrens that i had'nt done on my last visit.

 

I was alone with just the dog and ferts.

 

The place was paddock of horses and a few sheep on the bunnies were on the hedges as usual..it didnt take the dog long to get a mark on a nice set of about 10 holes,but with some on each side of the sheep netting between fields and hedge...So I had to stand on one side and leave the dog on the opposite ..it was qiute thick cover and tricky to see all the little bolt holes..but i netted a couple of runs along the hedge also just incase..the dog knew the score and behaved perfectly,waiting on her side and holding the 1st one in the nets before i could climb over fence and take it off her..i had 4 out of here in double quick time and as soon as the ferts started showing i boxed them up because its the type of land with very sandy soil and the warrens are very very deep.Any way all went well and i was taking the nets off while molly was already marking the next spot further up the hedge.. So I followed her and netted up again a very similar type of set which produced 2 more.

 

i then went over to an open set in the middle of a large paddock with holes so big they looked like they have been there for 20 years..lol.

 

last time i was here i had a few out very easy...so this time i thought I would do ok..but after spending ages netting up and getting set..I dropped a couple of ferts in and 1 bolted as usual very quickly but then, nothing..The ferts came up quite quickly and were wet through like they had been swimming. So I though enough for today and come back that warren when the waters gone and the bunnies have come back.

 

In a way one of them days when its quite boring in a way with no Frills or spills as they say..Dog behaved perfectly..ferrets worked well...

I didnt have to dig ferts out once..Nothing was missed. . . Its funny but the best days are always on your own..

 

But its good to be out with a mate and have the crack and a bit of a laugh at mistakes made etc etc. your dog always shows you up when your in company (well mine does without fail).But is mint when alone..eh ?

 

Ended day on 7 very easy no stress bunnies.

aye, i much prefer out with someone, bit of banter and not so boring. do like a bit of a mooch on my own though, and its become a lot more bearable on my own since i got a dog, if for some reason i couldnt tek dog with me i wouldnt even bother going out on my own. what way is your dog bred? looked a good day.

thanks chaps for the nice comments. . .it isnt always plain sailing and its taken me 2 hard seasons to get this dog in any way shape or form something like a decent little worker. . .She still has one or 2 issues from her badly abused past life. . . i think in another 2 years i might have a half decent little dog.

 

PatterdaleJoel..thanks for the comments young man..lol.. she is a bit of alsorts matey..supposedly a beddy X grew/collie Dam and a whippet x deerhound Sire. . . she comes from a resued past life..so the breeding is questionable to be honest.. I think of her as a Cur of unknown variety. . .she,s just a Lurcher. lol.

Im out in the morning for a steady mooch on my own...because my usual partner in crime is under house arrest from the missis this week. . .lol.

Not Dean mate...he,s working a lot at moment and his young family takes up a lot of his spare time. . .we still manage to odd mooch local.. but not as many long hauls.
