Winter fox hunting

Recommended Posts

Hi lads, 1st off I'm as green as they come when it comes to terrier work, I did a lot of ferreting years ago went on a few digs with my mates border but all my hunting in recent has been with shotgun, rifle and lurcher but I've always viewed this forum with a lot of interest and wanted to have a go.

Anyway I've seen a few threads in the working section where lads are digging foxes this time of year, I was always of the opinion that foxes only go to ground when raising cubs or are hunted to ground. So when yee go for a dig this time of year do yee first have to flush a fox and hunt it to ground or would foxes be in an earth normally this time of year ie you know where the earth is you send the terrier to ground and hope a fox is at home?

i dug 2 at about 25-30degrees heat a few week ago in a pair of shorts lol ive also spotted foxes asleep on top, 2 of them huddled round a fence pole in the pissing down rain at the bottom of a hill, think you just got to be out ther regardless of the weather
