Drawing ducks to a pond

Recommended Posts

Hi lads, I've heard from a few people that if you put rabbit guts in the margins and on islands the smell will draw in the ducks. Is this true or are they just pulling my leg ? Many thanks. Andrew.

we used to use tripe, rotten spuds and barley when i was young but now its just spuds and barley we use

I have heard of this and been told it works, by what I see as reputable men, but some how I chicken out of useing them, I find start feeding pond in august with barley or wheat, twice a week although I find maize really good for ducks and you can see it better on the pond bottom, give you a idea of how much is going,

Most things are to feed small life forms and not the ducks themselves ( raising nutrient levels in the water=more invertebrates)

Don't overdo it ( smelly water, algae and potential botulism etc )

Split maize, barley etc have good effect in the shallows, calling birds on the water ( Indian runners, and other types clipped).

It may be worth looking at the trees around the water if no wild ducks are coming in already ( to assess why not!?)

The best of luck bud,

Waidmannsheil!!
