RossM 8,149
Spoke to Lee last night and he said he wouldn't mind taking rhys out for his first time ferreting, last night was frosty but this morning it was hammering down. I knew a handy wee bit that was easyish to do and always produced a couple of bunnies. I took my old bitch along for the ride. Met them about 10:30 and made our way to the first warren, this is a hedge row that separates a horse field from a crop field the bitch Marked it so netted up 8 nets down in total and let rhys take the ferret out the box and with a wee bit help place it at the entrance. Ferret was down about 20 minutes without a sign, locator out and a Mark @ 5ft. Waited another 10 minutes and the ferret surfaced with signs of a kill below ground. Lifted nets and moved along the hedge line to a nice wee 6 holer, albeit a undiggable 6 holer. Entered ferret and after 10 minutes we had the first rabbit of the day. Onto the next bit at an electricity pylon and you can net most of the holes but not them all, this is where the dog comes in handy! Netted up what we could and entered ferret again. I stupidly put codie back on lead and when the first rabbit bolted, by the time I slipped it it had made cover. I left her loose and when the second rabbit bolted it wasn't so lucky and she picked it up and retrieved it live bac to rhys's feet. Rhys with my flask of tea! Called it a day as we were soaked right through and the boy was getting restless. Ending his first outing on a high for him with two rabbits. End of day Then had an hour on the lure this afternoon before mrs BPR put on a cracking Sunday dinner!! Keeps the dogs fit and entertained 4 Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
Well at 3 am i woke up to the wee man crying as he had been woke up by the rain battering on the window and peeled myself out of bed this morning thinking 'f**k ferreting'.....then rhys remembered that last night i had promised him we could take the 'fewwets' out to 'hunt rabbits' and i had to deliver...... The ground was boggy but the rain slowed up and held off which was good- but we were already soaking He was chuffed at the rabbit bolting into the net and continued to stroke it as i untangled it When the dog retireved the live rabbit he picked it up and held it, exactly how i tought him to hold a ferret. Made me laugh. They dont miss a trick!! All the way home he wouldnt shut up and told his mum all about it when he got home. I really enjoyed getting the wee man out with the ferrets. Hopefully the start of a bond until he decides that he is too hungover for an 8am ferreting trip or meeting girls is more important than a nights lamping. Im proud as punch with him today 4 Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
Nice write up and good to see the young ones getting out and hands on. Where's the box from? Atb Got the box off here mate. £10 and ill give you the members name its took some stick mate....had the wee man blocking the air holes with mud today. poor ferrets He loved it bud. Got to remember hes the future and will keep the sport alive.
