best dog

what would you say is the best dog for temprement i know every dog is diffrent but in peoples opinion what would make the best house/pet dog(what is more placid) as girlfreind already has 5 year old lab

whippet or 3/4 whippetx 1/4 beddy

half collie grey mate make good rabbit dogs and take the odd charile and make a great pet had one

Most Lurchers are placid, but why a Lurcher for a house dog/pet ? Will you also work it ? If not, then it's not realy fair on the dog. Why not just get a pet type dog ?

Never had a lurcher with a bad temprement, had some that were shite in the field though , the whippets i know seem to switch off once in the house and make a decent house dog, but i,d prefer the 1/4beddy x 3/4whipp as it would be more use to me, buster.

Grew up with various different lurchers and sighhounds as a kid and all had good temps, but as you said every dog is different and you should be looking at the parents closely to see their temps. I would say the greyhound and deerhound crosses were the most placid, but dont think you will go far wrong with a pure whippet from sound parents. My old man has a beddy cross and although its chilled out when exercised well, i have found him to be less placid than the other dogs i grew up with and certainly not as good with other dogs. That said it may just be a one off cheers Matt

Iv got whippets and saluki bull whippet x and imo sal bull x would be the better house dog as shes proper chilled out.but all dogs vary so you couldnt say one lurcher is better than the next.its how there rared imo

best house dog i no of is my beddy whippet he is brilliant everyone that comes round loves him, can trust him with the baby and he wont let anyone near the baby unless told to. but that carnt be said for my collie x or my saluki x they are pains. never switch off always hunting or up to no good. atb andy.
