Davy what gun oil would you use for the action?

i use napier gun oil,and a spray.it disperces and repells water and prevents rust!

if i know there is going to be a shower while i am out,i oil /spray before i go,just gives it that little extra pretection

I always oil a new Walnut stock for the obvious reason of making sure it is adequately weather proofed. Oil finnished stocks are easier to repair dings and dents than laquered/gloss finish. I also find sitting in front of the TV rubbing warmed oil into the stock very therapeutic :whistling: and it never ceases to amaze me the wonderful grain pattern that often appears while building up oil coats.

I use a 3 pack trade secrets oil finnish kit.

Thanks for all the advise, I've got some oil now so will stripping it down rubbing it in after my Sunday dinner.

Do I need to do inside the stock were the action sits too?

I'd put some oil in there, although its not essential, again it helps in weather proofing and dispels water. Wouldn't try and polish it though :whistling: . Be patient as well, it will take considerable work. Wait at least a day between coats and try and wait until its dry. A warm room helps immensely in this  .

when i got my hw100 it was dry as a bone, first thing i did was remove stock and rub in some parker hale walnut oil, only needs a bit and rub in with the palm of your hand, you will know when youre doing it right as oil warms up nicely... an old boy once told me when doing stock for the first time...

rub in daily for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year........ i did mine everyday for a week a year ago and only done once since, really brought the markings out, looks good and doing the inside i know if damp gets in there its also protected...all the best steve
