Opinions on the stoeger suppresor .22

Recommended Posts

Hiya, yep its a very well made gun for the price, inside it has a very well made piston and the lock up and accuracy is good. the main gripe is the trigger second pull goes on forever, on mine I drilled and tapped a 3m/m hole and fitted a grubscrew and a locking nut was added to set the final sear release. which made a nice short release stage. you can get a custom made trigger from Welsh Willy who does these conversions , mine came with a excellent Stoeger branded 3X9X40 PA scope that has a very good sight picture.

A mate had 1 and it's nothing more than an average rifle and always will be imho. The trigger is shit though i believe a tuner in Wales does a replacement unit which does improve it. It would do as a beginners rifle but as a serious hunting tool then i would say no. I would always recommend putting your hard earned towards a Weihrauch which will out shoot the Stoeger all day long and will out last it 10 fold.

Is it worth 150 quid? Probably and they do sell well apparently but you'll be looking to upgrade pretty soon if you're serious about the sport. You'll be lucky to get 100 quid for it 2nd hand as my mate couldn't sell his even with the trigger upgrade and got buttons for it in a trade in.

PS. Look out for the barrel breaking over on firing

I suppose it depends on the model..We fitted a gas ram in one recently it shot superbly ..The spring that was in it was a piece of shite really long then had a restricter in it ? ..Then last week a different model came in for repairs It had a composite type stock on it and was a total different quality barrel droop was terrible and barrel lockup spring was useless...So they do vary between models ..

For that kind of money I would get a HW 95K. After all if you can only have a legal limit rifle I think it would be a waste of money fitting a really expensive scope plus being a break barrel many of the expensive, and heavy, high magnification, scopes favoured by the recoilless pre charged owners, would be too long to be fitted on a break barrelled springer because you would not have the the clearence to open the breech as the long scopes would foul the barrel opening. A 3X9X40 pa scope would be ample. Good luck.

What woul you's recomend for a budget of £300-£400

You''ll get a lot of rifle for that money mate. Weihrauch HW77, 80, 95, 97 or 98. They're all great rifles and can be tuned later once you get used to shooting it. You'd get a decent 2nd hand rifle for your £300 which leaves you £100 for a scope. Hawke Sport being very good for the money

The reason I was thinking of the stoeger is the fact its cheap so if it only gets used a couple of times a month it wouldn't bother me to much. Were as if I bought a £400 gun it would probably annoy me so id end up selling it, got a price of what I need , I can get stoeger with scope bag torch all for £200
