Recommended Posts

I have a weihrauch hw77k but it currently has a tasco 3-9 x50 which was on it when i bought it,pianoman recomended i get a airmax 6-18x44 with sr12 reticle, but i believe they've stopped making them,so i have a couple of scopes im looking at and wanted some help deciding.

Hawke Airmax EV 4-12 x50AO http://www.deben.com...4-12x50-ao.html

BSA 6-24x50AO http://www.wonderlan...ir-rifle-scope/

Anybody reccomend some from first hand use?

[EDIT] im going to buy the airmax EV 4-12X50,im not sure which mounts i should buy for it,or if the ones i currently have will be sufficient?

I have 3 Hawke scopes, and rate them all pretty highly.

Is the Tasco a new one, or an old Jap Tasco ?? if it is jap, then keep it ,it`s better than both the above

Its an old tasco from Japan, but i just cant get it accurate,im shooting at a target size of 10p,and im like 5 inches away from it at 25 yards. Not really sure how to sight it in,when it says Left -> does that mean i rotate it left to make the sights go left,or rotate it right for it to go left?

What ever scope you decide to get, make sure it has AO adjustment (or sidewheel), I am just about to get a new scope myself due to not being able to focus on targets at 20m.

I have a hawke 3-9x40 and the optics are very good, but if i use the focus to get the reticle pin sharp then at short ranges the target is blurred, if i get the target focused then the reticle is blured :(

You should try reparallaxing that scope if it's blurry at 20m.

I have been through a lot of scopes recently and now finally settled on a Hawke Panorama 3-12 x 44 with the MAP6A ret. Quite possibly the best ret out there and as it's so fine it enables very precise shot placement. What's your budget?

If you imagine the turret screws to be like the thread on a bolt, the turn it the way you want the hole to move,,

If the hole is to the left of where you aim, the screw the turret back out, ie anticlockwise

Same if it is below where you aim,, screw the turret up ,,anticlockwise again.

If it is working, then the optics on the jap tasco will be way better than Hawke, or Nikko, etc

When zero'ing or practising on the range, all i shoot at now is a blank piece of white A4 paper. I find on some targets there can be so much on them that they can draw the away from what you are actually trying to focus on. With the white paper, all you have is the black reticle, the pellet hole and the white background. Once zero'd i might draw some circles with a £1 coin and felt pen.

For checking zero i shoot a pellet anywhere onto the paper then use that as my target as its so small and easy to see against the white. I'll have the rifle on a rest and focus the crosshair bang on the pellet hole...take a few shots and adjust windage and elevation from there.

If you take say 5 shots with your crosshair bang on the pellet hole and they are all landing 2" right and 1" high then you need to turn the windage turret left and the elevation turret down. For my setup that could be 8-10 clicks left and 4-6 clicks down. Once that's done i'll shoot another pellet hole and start again. If then you're only 1/4" or so out you can fine tune with a couple of clicks here and there until you're pellets are landing on top of each other. Don't be overly concerned if you get the odd pellet (flyer) landing an inch or so out as it's just a flyer, however if you're getting flyers regularly then there's something wrong with the setup or you need to find a more suitable pellet.

It is important that you're rifle, scope, mounts etc are all set up correctly and that you are using the best pellet for your rifle in order to get the best results.

I don't do any target shooting and only hunt with my rifles so i'm happy if i can get 10 shot groups inside a £1 coin cirlce at 35 yards as i don't take any shots at rabbits etc beyond that and prefer to move to within my prferred shooting range

thats the thing,at 25 yards the zoom on my scope is just so hard to even hit a target the size of a £2 coin, the recoil on the springer doesnt make it any better either.

Ive taken around 100 shots thismorning, and ive managed to get it accurate at around 10 yards (-.-) at 25 i dont think im even hitting the target half the time,no idea whats happend to it,lastime i used it i could hit a fly across the ocean with it...
