Yellow rabbit fat

Recommended Posts

Thanks Nod for the outing yesterday, had fun and now determined to get a rimfire.

One of the rabbits we shot has very yellow fat. I've had fatty rabbits a few times before but never such bright yellow. Any one able to explain - I'm thinking it's still good to eat.

Cheers,

Halam

could just be down to the diet that rabbit has had of late.

i know that in corn fed chickens / cattle, the fat has a yellow tinge to it. its seen as sign of quality and usually tastes pretty good.

i presume the internal organs are clean and of usual size/shape/colour ?

on one of my shoots the farmer had grain feeders out for the pheasants & you always got a rabbit or two from under these & they were alwats full of fat, some of the big bucks had that much fat in them you struggled to see their kidneys but they always made good eating.
