Inaccurate Dial Markings on Hawke Scope

Today I lasered a distance at 26 yards. I set the side focus on my Hawke Varmint to this distance but when viewed through the scope it looked quite blurred. Turning the side-focus again until my target came into crisp focus, I was rather surprised to see the dial was saying almost 40 yards!

 

Could this be because I wear spectacles or is something fishy happening with the optics?

Hi Lydford, I found the same issue with the Hawke Nite eye 6-24 x 50 digi, they also went out of zero every time I went to the range, swapped them out for another set (SR12) which seem a lot better.

 

Once you have focused the rear retical the parallax should be spot on, how old are the scopes, have they taken a knock.

Have you tried turning the eye reilef ring on the eye hole?

Actually, no I haven't. Is that a critical factor?

In my experience the gradients on Hawke scopes rarely correlate with the actual distance. Adjusting the focus ring won't change that.

like plink or stink says... there not the most accurate.. dont take it for granted on any scope. suppose youy could wrap some masking tape over it and re-do it with your own CORRECT markings.

That's a great idea. Thanks. I wouldn't like to 'graffiti' the scope but masking tape makes perfect sense.

Scope is 3 months old. No knocks. When you say you swapped them for another set (SR12) what do you mean?

also the yard marks change at different magnifications.if you set4x mag and the ao at 30 yards change the magnification to 9x you may have to change the ao to say 35 yards for a clear picture.the marks are a ruff guide.

Maybe it's only meant as an AO rather than an accurate range finder.

I will rely on my laser range finder, which is extremely accurate, and just use the side focus to focus ...

What you'll find is that once you adjust the diopter or eyebell for YOUR eye and you put the scope on its mid range magnification all will become clear( pardon the pun) when adjusting the parallax

Also noticed this with extreme elevation on turrets, on the 10x40x50 target scope,

not a major problem but a lain non the less....
