just a thought.........

in the good old days, well before i joined this site, i can remember a time when all that mattered in a dog was how it worked and what it caught and the close circle of friends i had around me would have the odd litter and pups be given around the few friends involved....sometimes on here it seems that unless you got a dog that can be traced three times back to "so and so" and is a direct son of "such and such" then you are dealing with "inferior stock"...........which of course is bollocks!!!!!!!!!

the heros of the game today run the same type of quarry with the same type of dogs on the same type of ground as everyone else, yet for some reason there "stuff" is the greatest thing since sliced bread and nothing else comes close....

lurcherwork in its purest form is one man and his dog, out to catch there dinner, so why has it turned into a numbers game and alot of owners acting the c**t like there directly out of brian plummer.............

its a sport that should be enjoyed as and when you want, where you want and with who you want, not walking round, beating your chest and telling anyone who will listen how good your dog is, as to me a GOOD lurcherman will be far more concerned with whats going on in his own kennels, than someone he neither knows or cares about.......... ;)

each to there own tho, if thats what floats your boat, crack on............

good post, the game is so much more than egotistical babble that goes on today,

some of the best hunting i ever had was with a gang of Welsh lads who came over every year to do a bit of hunting, to be honest i haven't a clue what they're dogs were like because it just wasn't important, we were just like minded folk enjoying each others company and having the craic,

i don't think its a new thing just thl highlights it and makes it national or even international as far back as i can remember theres always been a local chestbeater wherever i've hunted, i enjoy the craic at shows and a mates company ferreting but the only pal who really knows what we catch or don't especially at night is my mutt

yeah sadly the internet makes a grand stage for self promotion at times. and there is almost a kind of advertising that goes on, such a dog posted time after time with big bags and then 12 months later its up for stud or in pup. which is fine, but it doesnt mean that dogs which arent promoted the same way are no good. personally i had a spell of over 15 years when i didnt evr hunt with anybody else, i got so fed up with the amount of bullshit and various other issues (people coming back to visit permission on their own and uninvited, people slipping dogs on sheep when in my company, even a bloke who tried to set me up for two of his mates to try to steal one of my dogs). i had a couple of damn good dogs i that time, but nobody except me ever got to see them work, and to be honest it didnt matter to me, i knew what they could do. and i also had some not so good, but luckily nobody got to see them either!!!
