FAC .SUB 12FT/LBS

Recommended Posts

taken off another site

I have downrated two air rifles that were on FAC, a Rapid 7 and an Air Arms S300.

I had the S300 from the customer, uprated it by fitting manufacturers FAC parts and turned it into a bullpup.

A few years later he came back and said that Gloucester Police would accept a letter from me to the effect that the rifle had be reduced in power. I explained in the letter that the rifle had been sub 12ftlbs and I had uprated it. I then said that I had removed the manufacturers FAC parts and refitted those applicable to a sub 12ftlb rifle.

Gloucester police accepted this.

A while later the same customer asked me to downrate a Rapid. It had initially been uprated by another RFD. I contacted the RFD to ask what had been done to the rifle. Part of what had been done was to fit factory FAC parts.

Again the letter to Gloucester police explained that the factory parts had been removed, again it was taken off FAC.

Both of these cases occurred prior to 2000. Now that the police have a national data base with every rifle on it by serial number I would think that removal of a rifle would be more difficult if not impossible other than with destruction of the firearm.

i think you have hit the nail on the head mate, the same with fac mentors ect, ect nothing is standardised and the firearms laws themselves have been tinkered with that much over the years after some incident or other, its not supprising even the flo`s themselves are confused :icon_eek:

He may be a mod, (I'm a mod on the UBC Forum) is he a legally registered GunSmith with the relavent Home Office Documents?

If so would he be willing to confirm that in writing on his headed paper and sign the paper giving names dates and contacts within the police force that allowed him to do this?

If he were, we could turn the law upside down and at the same time I would get my Ultra back in no time :D

Or would he be thinking "Oh crap, I could wind up inside for this?"

have you asked basc or other organisations for their interpritration of the law after all thats whats wrong here interpretation :hmm: as the law states it can be done with an air rifle with a barrel length over 24 inches as i stated earlier  whats the barrel length of your ultra :hmm:

No, I've not bothered with BASC, they won't talk to me until I cross their palm with silver.

It's not interpretation Im after though, its absolute documented fact, that I shove in front of Humberside Police and say "There you go, now about my ultra....."

The ultra when they tested it came in at 13.04ft/lbs :cray: not exactly your average 20+ ft/lbs is it and far from the 60+ ft/lbs of a .22 short rimmy.

I couldnt remember the barrel length so had to luck it up, it's 12 inches. How many air rifles are there with 22+ inch barrels?

if the law made sense, solicitors could`nt charge so much, think in a way plod likes it beeing so confusing, lets a few of them make up their own rules as they like, cases where guns have been downgraded by some areas will be no use to Phantom, what he needs is case law, and i think it all goes the wrong way, anyone heard any more about possible appeals regarding the fss stitch ups recently, everything has gone deathly silent on them

if the law made sense, We would all know what power to set our rifles to and with what pellet , Then we could all be sure that we are within the law . Maybe this would make life easier , how silly of me :D
