lurchers ratting

Recommended Posts

my collie cross took a few ferreting around flight ponds last year, was only nipped once and switched on to the game, she also seemed to know not to bring them to me. they were living in rabbit burrows and when a bunny bolted she still retrieved them alive but rats were crunched, shook and just left lying. not that i'm interested in doing it lots (my ferreting mate has 5 russels leave it for him) but i think she'd be handy enough with practise

.....must be a proper collie cross

A bull cross monstrosity or a 'bitza terminator cross the legend destroyer' would retrieve the landowners stock half dead, eat the rabbbit whole whilst performing a lap of honour half hour retreive (to itself) and come back to command..well err screams and shouts......err eventually. Oh and kill your best ratting terrier and ferrets for free......I cringe and despair to think how many of these so called lurchers will be, and are already, in destitute animal rescues. Shameful.

What are you on about?

After a quick search i have figured it out. Omegathelast hates bull x's with a vengeance.

He really must start to practice a bit of what he preaches though...

"in reality I think there are probably more bad Hancock Bull cross owners, than bad Hancock bull cross dogs" ;)

Moll - I actually agree with that, to an extent. What I simply can not get my head around is the high % bull cross devil dogs I see dragging their owners around, or what these dogs are being bred for? I know for a Fact the wildlife crime intelligence units think they know what they are for and as I have said before Lurcher work was previously seen as more of an irritation to Wildlife crime groups, now it is associated with the worst aspects of wildlife crime and firmly on their radar.

Incidentally, I dont hate anything, I just worry for the (lack of) future of the respectable and acceptable side of the sport.

I did highjack the thread a bit and the irony was clearly lost whilst I stirred THL clique!

lurchers have never been respectable of acceptable, nature of the beast, as for wildlife crime units, as each part of fieldsports gets taken away from us they will concentrate there efforts on the next depending on which arm of the anti field sport brigade is in favour at the time and how the politicians want to spin things
