What difference is one or two ?

personally i would love more than one but its difficult when you have an anti mother who is already going against her opinion to let this one around and my mates mam is the same , hope ye lads see where im coming from , im trying to please everybody but obviously cant go against the parents either.

They can live on there own but how would you feel on your own not seeing any other human and been picked up now and again n going out of your house for only 6-7 months of the year go dam Boreing I think just out of interest how old are you

get another one then take it round there and tell them that someone must have knew that you kept ferts,,so they decided to abandon this one outside your back gate ,,so you had no option than to adopt it ,,,,,,most women will think,,,ahhh poor little stinker being abandoned all alone

All hunting issues aside for a moment but it sounds like you need to face abit of reality on this one. Neither yourself or your mate live in your own homes and so you are stuck living by your parents rules which is fair enough. But if they say no ferrets and you go ahead and get one just because you want to the only thing that will happen is substandard conditions for the animal, damage to its physical and mental health, stress between you and your parents and a resulting animal that will not be as good for the job it is intended for.

 

You haven't said anything about your hunting experience and I have none of my own so can't speak any gospel. But I've done similar things before at your age and it made for a bad first time experience that I then never fully devoted myself to and lost interest quickly.

 

I'd say you should probably find some folks who go out ferreting tell them you want to get into it and ask to tag along, explain you rushed things a little because you were eager to get into it and ask if they will take your kit. Once you move out and have your own place go get 1, 3 10 or how ever many you can handle. But for the moment it sounds like you have unrealistic expectations on what you can do with your circumstances.

You need to bite the bullet here.

 

If you stay as you are your ferret is going to suffer and deteriorate in condition. It's just not fair on the animal.

 

You've got two options...

 

Option A.

 

Another ferret and do it. don't be half hearted. get them out, socialise them with you and your hands etc, keep them clean, fed and watered. Don't give your mother nor your friends mother any small speck of an excuse to ask you to get rid.

 

Option B.

 

Find another ferret owner and explain your situation as Rich.h has said. you're keen on the sport but parents aren't so keen on keeping ferrets. You've got a kit that you're wanting to use and are asking if it can be socialised with thier's you'll look after them, fed them, water them, clean them out. Pay your way with expenses etc you just want to learn how to do it properly. As long as you stay keen and true to your word then I doubt anyone will have a problem. Just don't take the p1ss or annoy them. i.e. don't be bringing every tom dick and harry round to their place to show your ferret off. Treat them with repsect as they are doing you a massive favour.

 

If none of them work out then you'll be forced into...

 

Option C.

 

Pack Up.Find a GOOD HOME for your ferret. Advertise on here. Don't just lob it to anyone who'll take it, makesure they're not in the same boat as you. Don't sell it to a mate who thinks it's "mint" etc. Find it a proper home with another ferret. Then when you can properly establish yourself as a full on ferret owner.

 

With one ferret in your current situation you'll be piddling in the wind in the field and your ferret will suffering from over working and a poor home... It's just not fair.

 

You can close this webpage and not take any notice of what we are saying but just think about how you would feel living in a house by your own. You can't go out when you do go out you are worked by yourself. You go back home and again your by yourself. day after day, month after month. You don't see anybody else... Brilliant life that isn't it...

 

Seriously bud I understand your in a sticky situation with your parents but you've got to sort something out... sharpish. I think your best option is Option B tbh.

Ferret has been given to a friend who works other ferrets (6)

Parents have agreed that if I find someone who can show me how to correctly raise/ look after and work ferrets then they might consider 2 kits around Christmas time as they know if keen on fieldsports.

So thanks for all info given and if any Irish lads feel like giving some ferreting experience I'd be very grateful.

the ferrets will be ready to work when you think is right just not when its dead young around the 6month mark and everyone says diffrent things like they say get a other ferret now to keep it company thats not always a good idea sometimes it is, and other times it isnt theres nothing init really its just common sense clean them out every single day n wash the hutch down treat them for ticks n fleas handle them every single day and also a main point i would say is everytime you feed them make a noise wether its a squeak or whistle w.e you prefere so when working this maybe easyer to call them back rather than a dig
