johnharris 177
Might be a silly question but I have some land that has a farm dump on it, this is full of holes and rabbits. You can go into the field at anytime and see loads off rabbits run into this dump. The problem is it is full of old tin sheets, and tyres so if you lost a ferret you would never be able to dig to it. I know that you are able to use a smoker to bolt rats but wondered if anyone has tried it with rabbits and if so to any success. Thanks atb Quote Link to post
long dogs 580
never heard of anyone trying it Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Doesn't really work. You can try to stink them out with a creosote mix, but probably of limited use on a deep warren. I'd just ferret it, and make sure you start early. Edited to add - and take a bar and some metal cutters. We once had a dig that went through the middle of a buried car! 3175darren 1,102
They used to use creasote yrs ago dropping creasote down the hole, brought them out onto the fields at night, but wouldnt make them exit in a hurry, they used to do it before lamping or longnetting to try and get them all onto the field,I was allways of the veiw the holes were generally too deep to get the smoke to flow around the set properly,so never tried it, and the people I know who claimed to have, never raved about it,but never heard of anyone doing it with the chainsaw, Quote Link to post
long dogs 580
if it got coller on you should still get to it,if you dont mind digging Quote Link to post
Ripstop 89
smoke rises. how could you reach the lower parts of a Warren? If you were a ferret would you go up through smoke or stop down? Ive been with lads, and they did it, i stopped waited and when the smoke lifted low and be hold the ferret surfaced, Physics. Quote Link to post
The one 8,594
Think i'd still ferret it .if your no happy snare it ,stink it out or try back netting it Quote Link to post
paulus 26
ive done it but dont expect any to bolt as you have to block all the holes as the smoke comes out and shows you where they are, eventually the whole warren will fill with smoke if you block all the holes Quote Link to post
The one 8,594
Stick to smoke for rats rabbits will just sit in a dead end and no bolt 1 Quote Link to post
