what about the selectors might be slighty off ?

I say your clutch ain't clearing right it's dragging slightly... Wouldn't say it's anything to do with syncro,s your only feeling it changing down as that's when your clutch as to work hard especially going down to first and second , take it back to the garage and get them to put it right..

Could even be air in the hydraulic system

If it was clutch or hydraulics at fault box would crunch selecting reverse as this doesn't have syncros hence the question def is syncros likes been said first and second hubs damaged

Not nessercellery , if you have a slight drag on the clutch it will only crunch when the box is under load ... Hence why it doesn't crunch going up the gears only coming down the box ...

Like I say take it back to the garage and see what they say ...

If the clutch isn't clearing it will crunch in reverse because it hasnt got syncro meshes on that gear because you only select it stationary try rolling backwards in your car then select reverse it either wont go in or will crunch reason it crunches going down the box is the syncros are not slowing the first motion shaft down quick enough to align the gears hence the crunch as they mesh together

Reverse is harder to get in because there straight cut gears not bevelled...

Torchy try double clutching quickly when changing down see if it goes in easier i'd put my money on it being clutch or slave cylinder related

No they don't have a bloody syncro on reverse next you'll be telling us its the overhead cam sprocket that's detached from the kronkle bolt

I've been a mechanic for thirty years rebuilt more gearboxes than I can remember think I might know what I'm talking about

And yes I did start on the spanners when I was 11

when i went to the garage last week and told them about it he said the clutch might need bedding in which tbh i thought they were just spilling me shit, i,m going to take it back monday and get them to drive it and see what they say .If its there fault obviously i want it sorted cost me the best part of £600 . If its my fault i,ll have to live with it

Where did I say they have a syncro on reverse I said there a straight cut gear which makes them harder to get in ... I to have rebuilt countless engines and gearbox and I also started on the spanners at a young age (about the same age as you) not been at it as long as you but I'd still put money on your theory being wrong

Sure when torchy gets it sorted he can tell us who was right if one of us is right that is
