Hi folks,i was rushed to hospital last monday with pains in my groin area the doctor told me i had a hernia :icon_eek: He said i will need a operation to sort it,i asked how long to wait and he said between 3-6 weeks :icon_eek::icon_eek: .I have been signed off work till the OP and then he said it could be 2-3 weeks off work after the OP :icon_eek: .I am going out off my mind stuck indoors looking at the same 4 walls.I am passing the time making peg snares and other bits and bobs,i just need to get out in the fields with my aas410 but i can't drive because its putting pressure on the hernia.Basicly i am depressed :laugh: .Its even a struggle to use the computer.....its up stairs :laugh: .

I have been there - I had an inguinal hernia repair about 6 years ago. The pain was pretty bad like a pulling in your guts and a throbbing in your groin. I could pop the whole bundle of stuff back in through the hole internally but one cough and it was all out again. I went in for 'keyhole' surgery but came out with a 7 inch scar - must have been a big key! Make sure they reinforce the repair with mesh as that stops it happening again. I was initally off work for a fortnight but it ended up being 4 weeks, and then only to light work, no lifting or stress. It still aches occasionally now though when I am digging rabbits or raking the garden.

I have to say it was quick - I went in mid morning and was out and on my way home by mid-afternoon, but as Fellman says it is very painful for a while as they bruise you pretty badly stuffing everything back where it should be and the stitches are in your stomach wall which tends to tense up when you do anything at all.

Have done hundreds of them ..... I was taking some guys gall bladder out one day ..... I see it everyday at work.

:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek: You're a Surgeon?!? Un F*cking Real! All we need now is a Priest and I reckon I'll have seen it all!

No disrespect. But the last Surgeon I spoke to about Field Sports had a couple of acres of garden and had a local Gypsy come in with his Dog to take care of the rabbits there. I somehow suspect the Gypsy people rather out number Surgeons in this places membership. Don't you?

The real title for my job is Surgical Assistant or Anaesthetic Practitioner. Consultants only have one pair of hands and for most procedures a min of two sets are required, so he needs a second set of educated fingers to help him. My main area of work is Anaesthetics.

Bigeddie, the mesh operation is a piece of piss. Couple of my mates have had it -back to work in no time. In the olden days when i had it done you just got stitched but the new op is vastly superior. One of my mate had three operations cos it just kept bursting but the final one was mesh and he says he's as good as new. As for the boredom just chill and enjoy et a few beers and a few books and feck the real world for a few weeks. :drink::victory:
