Recommended Posts

As this is our 25th All Ireland Championships staged at our 50th Irish Game Fair , since we launched the Game Fair concept in Ireland in 1978, we have pulled out all of the stops to make this a memorable event. Please note we have put in place a facility for anyone feeling they have a legitimate complaint to lodge an objection on the day on the payment of £20. If the objection is upheld the £20 is returned. If not it is forfeit and will be donated to a cancer charity. We will not consider objections after the fair especially from people who weren't there!

I realise in these difficult times people may find it expensive to attend on two days. We have made a gesture towards this already with our voucher system at Ballywalter but if you want to come both days I am happy to look at an additional voucher system. PM or email me at irishgamefair@btinternet.com but please do so before the 22nd June.

Now having put all of this together I am not looking for personal compliments but it might be nice to show my fellow directors some positive comments from this forum for a change!

pups have a final and they have to have a cut of point so thats a year as it has been for as long as i remember, theres hardly much point in an arguement as it cant change so enjoy the shows and relax

will there be a stall for the iwtf to help all the working terrier folk ?

Looking forward to this show Albert, I just wanted to know if the dogs that dont win in the master mcgrath final are they able to race in the all ireland racing. I think it would only be fair that you could enter your dog in only 1 of the 3 races just to give everybody a chance.

Steven,

They are elgible to run in the All Ireland - We have always wished to have the All Ireland Championships open to all so that anyone winning them can say they are the All Ireland Champion no one having been excluded from competing - but of course these dogs in the MMcG will have had the 'handicap' of having run at least once already and the two races are at different distances . The Master Mc Grath over 150 and the All ireland over at least 250.

why in the showing do the pup winners not qualify for the final, dont think this is fair as they are only being judged on looks and whos to say there wouldn't be a pup that looks better than all the dogs in the rest of the classes. Is it not the same price to show a pup as an older dog, so surely the pup should have the chance of winning the overall (terrier, whippet or lurcher show)

The reason is that as you know pups especially of mixed breeds often look much different when they are fully grown. A puppy that looks well balanced at 6 months can be totally out of balance when it is fully mature and vice versa. Any dog being crowned All Ireland Champion should be a fine example of its breed type and in our opinion to enure this the dog needs to be at least 1 year old.

at least 1 year old, but sure is puppy class not for 1 year olds and younger, so if the winner of puppy class is 1 year old exactly then would it not be old enough to be a fine example of its breed type. is this the way all shows work the puppy winner does not be in the final along with all the other class winners of its breed.

Whatever classification you put in there will always be a borderline. In the case of a pup exactly one year old it would not be elegible for the puppy class which is for dogs UNDER 1 year. If you have a pup which you think is good enough to go on to best of show why don't you simply enter it in one of the adult classes.

Usualy some shows have a whippet lurcher an terrier puppy final an I've been wondering y is shows now haven a rough under 23 in with the smooth under 23 wouldn't it make a bit more sence to pup all rough type lurchers in together an all smooth in together

Flash,

We have a lot of racing to get through and as this is a Championship Show we have gone for adult racing only. We have tried to separate more 'elite' dogs from novice dogs and given rough; terrier cross and smooth novices their own races with a final. Ultimately we can have a rough dog elite class too. But we have tried to give as much width to the racing to give as many people as possible a crack at the prizes without diluting the prestige of the show as the All Ireland Terrier, Whippet & Lurcher Championships open to all comers so if your dog wins you can genuinely claim to be the All Ireland Champion as everyone had a chance to take you on.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
