Granted decent weather our objective is to make this year's event the best Irish Game Fair ever.

We have kept a lot of it under wraps because it is funny how other events don't appear to be able to innovate and try to copy our ideas and we want to make this our 50th fair quite special.

We are really building up the attractions and already have more stands booked than last year and about 5/6 new applications coming in per day plus new offers of prizes - 5 major new prizes today!

We have very much concentrated on putting additional funding into country sports , country lifestyle and countryside events rather than getting caught up in 'Titanic Mania'

All will be revealed in our Summer 'Game Fair' magazine , at our launch at the Clotworthy House Gardens and on our web site which will go live on the 12th June.

Bri,

Just 34 years of fairs and hopefully still learning and improving!

First gundog tests, clay shooting competitions and casting competitions and demos from then World Champion in 1979.

First display of guns in 1980 after quite a lot of trouble persuading police to allow.

First terrier and lurcher show staged at the fair in 1980 by the Ulster Game & Wildfowl Society.

First air rifle range in 1981 also catapult range which isn't with us anymore in 1982.

First jousting staged in 1980.

First Gundog scurry run in 1980.

First Strong man contest staged in 1982.

First falconry demonstration staged in 1981 - drew great crowds.

In fact most of the things that people take for granted at fairs nowadays were first introduced to great public interest at our fairs.

It has been both fun and hard work to keep innovating and the concept fresh, and to keep coming up with new ideas to promote our sports.

Should have said in spite of rumours that I plan to retire this year having completed 50 fairs, I have already put in place venues and dates for our events in 2013. Watch this space for some exciting new developments!

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN THE COUNTRY SPORTS  ARENA
As we approach the end to 2025, I would like to reach out and personally thank  all my friends in Country Sports for all  the hard work you  put into  organising our dog show and race days in 2025 for all to enjoy. These were all fantastic events and truly served as a wonderful window for our Country Sports fraternity.
Days like these at our dog shows in the summer are so important for our community, and your details and dedication to the cause has really shone through. So many charities have benefited over the years and so many new friends made at these get togethers  by like minded people. This was very evident in July this year when the Burren Working Dog Club gave £17,OOO to a charity. What an achievement.

I know there will be some very sad homes  this year,  with places missing at the  dinner table  in  our Country Sports  community. Can I please offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those people , and  hopefully with Gods help you will get through to brighter days ahead.

Many thanks to the McGrath Racing Club Carlow, for a great day out at the 5 Nations and who has travelled north and south of the border to run our racing so efficiently and helped me out on many occasions..  A special word of thanks to Tally Ho ( Peter Morgan ) for keeping the Country Sports window open in the dark days of winter by organising your virtual competitions and giving away so many generous prizes in return. This is so greatly appreciated .

And Finally, to my mentors and long term friends  Mr 5 Nations himself, yes The King of the Castle Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Albert it is great to see you getting back to health again, and we look forward to seeing you back on the scene in 2026.

Finally, Finally, may I take this opportunity  to  wish you all North and South of the border and further afield a very Happy Christmas and  Prosperous  New Year.

To we meet again in 2026 God Bless

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
