paulk73 151
well as its going on friday i thought id take it out 1 last time. so off i went for an hour this evening, in search of a squirrel or 2. i got to my permission, and met the new house keeper for the first time. after a brief chat, i made my way slowly across the lawn, to the little wood. as i entered, i could see the floor is now carpeted with ground covering ivy. this hides all the dry crunchy leaves and twigs. it was impossible trying to sneak through the wood, so i decided to walk straight to a nice shady tree and sit and wait. after about 20 mins, i was rewarded with the scraping of claws on bark. i looked round, and could just about see movement through the twigs about 15 yrds away. i lifted the rifle, adjusted the focus, and tracked the squirrel as it descended head first down the trunk. as soon as the head appeared clear of the twigs, i squeezed off the pellet, again the impact seemed really loud. and the squirrel tumbled to earth. it did a couple of flips, and it dissapeared into the ivy. then i heard calling, and i wasnt sure if it was the squirrel that i had just shot, because i couldnt see it. i decided to break cover because if it ws the squirrel id just shot, it needed dispatching. i would normally wait out and see if anymore came out, but under the circumstances i had to check. i approached where the squirel had fell, and could see it was motionless on its back. then i heard a scrabbling noise, and turned to see another squirrel only a couple of feet above the floor on the far side of the tree. he didnt hang about, and helter skeltered his way up the tree. this was the only shot of the hour or so i was out, but it was a good send off for the old hw 100 t. looking forward to picking up my new 100 ks on friday. cheers for reading guys Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Nice shooting. The one I shot landed on top of a hen house, I had to borrow a broom handle, go in and play squirrel snooker to get it off the top. Always sad to say goodbye to an old friend but at least it went with style. Quote Link to post

paulk73 151
more than likely friday night stealthy. lol will say i will most probs put 250 pellets through her on friday night. lol then i will deffo be out with her to try and christen it. im thinking about a bi-pod for it now. the other one will be too big for it. but i struggle getting down prone, because of an old back injury. i can get prone but cant wait in that position for long periods of time. so most of my shots off the bipod are sitting shots. so true moley. hope i dont regret getting shut. im gonna go for a kt in .177 at xmas, then i will have one in each cal. her indoors wont be best pleased, but then again she never is. i had a 100 a few yrs back and got shut of it, since then ive had all sorts. daystate harrier, bsa ultra. webely raider 10. axsor. but i couldnt get along with them. so went back to what i knew i liked and trusted. surprising really cos im only 5ft 7 and 10 stone wet through, lol and they are a bit of a lump. but i found 1 mag of free standing shots every day soon helps build up the right muscles, but non of us are getting any younger, so thought id change down to the carbine. cheers guys Quote Link to post
paulk73 151
this is a pic of the rifle just after i got it. the barrel was rusted badly, and had a few nicks the rust has been rubbed down on this pick. the stock was also in bad shape. nicks and dinks in it. it had been used as a work horse, and put back in the gun bag wet, hence the rust. but ive since got a mate to bead blast the barrel, and reblue it. then he stripped off the stock and refinished it, and put the wrap on the cylinder and silencer, to bring it back to life a bit. it was a right old dog when i bought it, but im glad i did .
