What Do U Desire

Recommended Posts

PREY DRIVE, I,ve been thinking about this subject a bit more recently, its been mentioned a few times recently, paticularly in the whippet threads about the amount of prey drive in whippets and if its detrimental and undesirable,

however I,ve also read a few comments stating " If the dog isn,t giving 110% it won,t have a place in the kennel "

so whats it to be ?

do or die or a more measured self preserving type animal

atb

ps, not just in whippets but any type

I have seen lads say "My dog has a lot of brains"........which loosely translated means "Its a wanker" in many cases.......not all, but a few

Theres a fine balance , three of us had a walk on a golf course mine was the only dog that ploughed into cover after her prey she got her rabbits but it could have been costly

Prey drive needs to be there in any breed or cross, different running styles suit certain terrain. A whippet cross will be better suited for rabbits in smaller fields, saluki cross bigger fields for hares but would either animal be anygood with a low prey drive? my answer is no. Good animals should have high prey drive and the brains to use it properly IMO

i think bull crosses have the do or die attitude forever getting hurt and wrecking themselves without even batting an eyelid lol thats obviously coming from the pit

Depends on the bull in the blood I would say.....there will still be a number of crap bull crosses out there that it would not be too hard to sicken easily

As with any good worker it's a balance which if all goes well will leave to longevity ! Nobody wants a over the top dog and no body wants a dog with no prey drive, somewhere in the middle is just fine.
