deerhound/greyhound from proper parents, will refuse nothing, and take anything its aimed at.

You will get wasters in their 30s/40s/50s etc. that have done sod all with their lives, no doubt about it. BUT at 23 you really haven't experienced much of life pal, you'll realise that when you're o

one what bends nicely , has a good turn of pace ,strikes like a cobra and doesnt say no

Northernlite. Smartdog.

You lads are missing the point.

"any lurcher should do it."

Yes of course the should. But he is talking about A DOG FOR THE JOB!!!

A 22" beddy based lurcher is not the job for regular hare taking. They might do them now and then as for fox. But regular? Behave.

Surely he's looking for a racey bull cross with some saluki blood?

No I'm not a coursing man nor run bull crosses but when someone asks for a dog to regularly take fox and hare and lads respond with "any lurcher" it's nonsense.

My mates got a 23" sal/whip/grey with the speed and stamina for hares and the tenacity for fox but her size made her struggle Pre-Ban.

Her put to a sal/bull/grey could be phenomenal. But also be shit. Lol.

Gaz

your missing the piont gareth boy seen a few 22tts beddy xs colliexs take hare and fox regular why not a fox is nothing to a lurcher the things cannie run for a start seen dogs at 19tts take fox regular . As for hares what is it with you and saluki xs do you think they are the only hare killing dogs about seen a few greyhound whippets preban at 22tts that would take hares regular Have you seen alot of different dogs run gareth do you even own a lurcher gareth ?Think there was a thread up not that long ago about a dog that was 22tts that killed 3out of 3 regular bonzos was the bitches name atb

No need to be a bell end here and question what I do and don't know. I've not got a lurcher no. I tell you what I've got though - common sense. Something you clearly lack.

Im not disputing a small dog could do hare and fox. Of course they could.

I'm getting a whippet and if it was Pre ban I would want it to take the occasion long ear or red coat.

But I emphasise "occasional".

Yes there will always be the odd 22" dog taking 3/3 long ears or reds night after night. But it's just that - the ODD dog.

As a general rule a 22" beddy cross is not the dog for regular fox and hare.

If you think it is then you need to go and give your head a shake fella.

Not being a bell end but im commenting on something i know about and have done in the past on a regular basis .And my first comment was a dog above 21tts that could be above 22 as well not just 22 it can go higher i think you need to get out with the dogs more before you make comments about things you know nothing about maybe you have read a few books fair enough .And at what point did i mention beedy xs i dont think i did anyway son go and read some more or even get out and do it :bye:

I love how your main "back up here" is age. Calling me "boy" and "son". I may only be 23 but I've seen and done more than most of the time wasters on here in my few years in most aspects of life.

I don't read books. I go out with mates and there dogs.

You said above 21" and continued to say it doesn't need saluki, beddy or collie will do the job.

So I picked up on the worst case scenario - 22".

I wasn't saying your dog or any other small dog couldn't do hare or fox. Some even regular.

But back to the OPs question - he was wanting a purpose bred dog for H and F. And your telling me a small beddy cross is the BEST suggestion?

I could go and spend the next 50 years hunting with the top lads in the game and I'm pretty sure even after seeing some awesome small dogs I would still be saying the same.

Okay I retract the comment calling you a bell end. Maybe there are people on here who can have a heated debate and agree to differ at the end and shake hands and move on. Fair play

I get my whippet mid-late August all being well and if the bitch has taken and I can't wait to see what they are capable of. Some have said August is a bad time to get a pup (start of season) but to me it gives me 12 months to bond with her before she sees anything :)

I always find it amusing when someone in their early 20's thinks like that....exactly the reason why I try not to associate with people of that age.....no offence intended :D

What amuses you?

I've worked since I was 15 years old. Put myself through college and got myself a decent job at the age of 17 which I spent the last 6 years working my arse off at and travelling the country and last week got made operations manager.

I've got a 34 year old missus, 2 kids and had dogs all my life.

I don't like getting spoke down to and people assuming I know less than them because I'm younger than them. Age really is just a number my friend.

What is it you don't like?

in a nutshell.....cocky young people that think they know it all about life.

I don't claim to know it all mate, and i certainly aren't cocky.

I'm often getting put down for being a kid by blokes your age and when it comes down to it they've done less in there 35 than I have in my 23 and are certainly a lot less mature.

I spoke to a well known bloke off here the other week (Mally) for an hour on the phone and learnt more from speaking to him in that hour than I would reading a thousand posts on here.

Like I say, I dont claim to know it all and I'm learning all the time. But arent we all?
