Ratreeper 441
A few pics of the Unit that got moved today, this one is going into Heathrow tonight, Avis have there 2 for testing now. Ratreeper: I'm not clued up on the technology, cameras etc mate, we have designed and built the unit to house it all..... I think the car has to be relatively clean mate, there is no worries with rain as it is all inside. It has been tested for a few months now and it all seems to work fine Cheers I hope it takes off for you and your mate, you could make a hell of a lot of money. But if you could ask him if it can work on a wet car I would be interested. I know it is indoors, but if there is a water droplet or dirt I think it would interfere with the lasers that let the camera 'see'. So if he has a way around this, which is possibly what he has patented then that would be remarkable. Hope you don't mind me asking mate but what do you work at........ I work for a publishing company for scientific magazines, about lasers, super computers and cameras. I am not all that knowledgeable on the technology but only last week one of directors was discussing an article about cameras being used to try and replace humans in factories, checking for small errors in welding etc. But he said the technology just isn't there yet and if there was any dust, grime etc that a human would understand just confuses the software and it starts dumping them (the product) as rejects. So what I was thinking is, if your mate has a system that can work in rain etc you should dump this rental car project and start talking to factories. There are lots of companies in the laser industry that become multi-million organistations within a few months of launching a new innovative product that saves other companies billions or gives one corportation an edge.

I wonder how far the technology he has could be used, I don't know, we have talked about a couple of other ideas but more to do with vehicle scanning really, I've seen a bit of what his main company does and it is impressive, as I've said he's a switched on lad where this side of things is concerned. It's early days but the rental thing is looking promising, if it takes off as we hope there will be a few years work at least......it will keep a good few lads busy fabricating and erecting + fitting tech gear........ NEWKID 28,928
Thanks for the replies lads, Catcher 1: We have invested time and money and my mate has even more so, but it is an oppourtunity I felt was worth a punt, I've put my neck on the block a bit on this 1 as I've kept pushing it whilst we were chucking money and time at it, my brother was keen but our business partner who does our design drawing thought we should have spent more time working on other jobs which were definate payers( they weren't as interesting or exiting for me though), between myself and my brother we've kept him on side and now with a bit of luck it might be worth it...... fireman 11,412
Hope the old fella with the clip board has paid off his mortage as he's on the dole soon. All this technology and people are still starving to death, would rather see it put to better use than saving a fecking car rental company money. I think the bloke with the clip board is the same bloke, who gets you the car, signs the car out etc..... also the other angle is the amount of work generated in the production, up keep, maintance of the units I'm not sure if jobs will be lost or jobs will be made........ another point is we both have used local suppliers and all local labour ( which maybe is more expensive), so I don't think by having a go at making ourselves a few bob we are taking food out of others mouths..... the opposite really mate............ I would say millions are spent on technology to save lives etc but I'm not sure what this idea has to do with that..... Cheers
