MUDD 374
As a die hard Newcastle UTD supporter from a young age, sitting in 4th place in the premiership with 4 games to go. I had a conversation with a friend in work earlier today and he said to me, "fk lad, yous Geordies will be well sickened if Chelsea win the champions league" I asked him why ? He said, sure if Chelsea win the CL then Newcastle Utd if we keep 4th place in the premiership won't get a CL place next year ! I've my own opinion on this, what yous lads think ?? Stabs 3
Taken from NUFC.COM Chelsea's qualification for the Champions League Final means that Newcastle could be made to wait for the result of that game before confirmation is received of which European competition they will enter. Roberto Di Matteo's side will face Bayern Munich in their own ground on Saturday May 19th knowing that a win will give them a place in the Champions League next season. Assuming Chelsea finish fifth or lower, then that would be at the expense of the side finishing fourth in the Premier League, who will instead compete in the Europa League. Getting to the final and losing is meaningless for Chelsea in terms of European qualification, but they do still have both the Premier League and FA Cup as routes of entry. And now that European participation is assured next season in some form or other, here's a rundown of the posslbe first game dates that we could face: Champions League: Fourth Qualifying Round 21.08.2012 (1st leg) (or 22.08) Fourth Qualifying Round 28.08.2012 (2nd leg) (or 29.08) Group Stage begins: 18.09.2012 or (19.09) Europa League: Third Qualifying Round 02.08 2012 (1st leg)** Third Qualifying Round 09.08.2012 (2nd leg) Fourth Qualifying Round 23.08 2012 (1st leg) Fourth Qualifying Round 30.08.2012 (2nd leg) Group stage begins: 20.09.2012 ** were United to be involved at this stage, presumably they would be play away from home in the first leg, as St.James' Park will still be occupied by the Olympics. PS: The Premier League begins on 18.08.2012.

MUDD 374
When Liverpool won the CL 4 seasons ago did the top 4 in the premiership not go into the premier league anyway, If my mind serves me correct ??? So why would it be different this year for the toon army ????

RubyTex 1,957
I think that was correct MUDD, the 4th team received special treatment if i remember correctly thus England had 5 teams in the champs league, you're right it shouldn't affect the top four.

johnny boy68 11,726
When it was The European Cup there was 2 British teams in it a few times due to the Brit team winning and that rule should still stand imo. Remember the draw one year for the first round Liverpool v Forest, the way cups should be in club football. The toon should be in it if they finish 4th just as Chelski should if they win it imo

Earlier in the season I would have thought no and build a better team so we'd be more ready for it but now my opinions changed and I think I would be more off a good thing. Yeah but when Liverpool get in, theres always a chance they will win it..the likes of Arsenel get in every year, and will never win it as long as Arsehole Winger has a hole in his arse.. So..chelsea to loose it, toon to get 4th spot and in cl everybody happy, you bet your life we are..
