A day on the ranges shooting the bigger guns

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

This is just a clip of me on the ranges with my work zeroing and then shooting a set of practices in preparation for next months military shooting competition that I’m entering with my new shooting team.

Sorry that there isn’t any real close up footage of the shot targets but as you will see when you watch the clip the computer does all the scoring and we do not visit the targets after each practice.

The scoring is computed on group size so a smaller group size is equal to a far better score.

Thumbs up Si :),

Wow things have progressed since I left in 1991 :o.

Still preferred My Bolt action 303 Rifle and the SLR, Just loved the kick on that baby :)

Still remember taking turns down at the target end or the butts lifting target's and dropping them after

the whistle, Serious case of Ricochets  especially when HQ Squadron were firing , Very few of that

Sqn passed their APWT first time .

AWSOME!!!

It's a shame the range was all shut up when I stayed with you and Lj in Germany, would have been great to try my skill against you. You have taught me so much and given me the confidance to push the envelope of a sub12 with long range shots, it would have been an honour for me to have your instruction on the LF range

Dont worry Tegater mate,

I'm sure you can find more stuff than this happening in Afghanistan if you look hard enough on YouTube.

Its not like Ive broken the official secrets act.

I'm not complaining mate, I enjoy watching all sorts of shooting and use plenty of these range types myself, and I always enjoy your vids, I am just suprised that you put this sort of stuff on youtube, in the full public domain.

I seem to remember years ago, that range staff used to carry loaded weapons as a result of the potential for the threat from IRA, whilst on field firing areas.

Dont want to fall out about it, but Afghanistan is a completley different ball game.

It was 49mm 10 shot group Scramble.

Its nothing brilliant at 102 metres and Ive shot much smaller groups in the past but considering the intermittent winds we were competing with and I wasn't using a bipod like some it was good enough for me on the day.

I didn't get it actually on the zero part of the day. I got it on one of the practices.

There was a female soldier who scored a 37mm group size with 5 shots which was really good I thought but she was using a LSW and bipod so a good score should be expected.

She scored 1373 points overall though which wasn't so good especially as she was injured and could only shoot from the prone position for every practice and not the prone, standing, kneeling / sitting and trench shoot like everyone else did.

Oh and why all the ?????? mate?

Not falling out mate, far from it.

We actually have to deploy sentries on the left and right arcs of this range mate as a public foot path crosses the impact pit (daft I know but true).

Civilians can watch you shoot if they want.

I think times have changed a lot mow mate.

The military are more relaxed on things like this and if they were not happy I could always delete the post.
