robbo 879 Posted April 9, 2012 Report Share Posted April 9, 2012 i have just bought seven point of lay warrens. put them in the chicken house when i first got them and fed and watered them in here for a couple of days then let them find their own way down the ramp into the run.problem is they now dont go back into the house to roost they just huddle up in a corner of the run all night piled on top of each other. tried putting some food on the steps of the ramp which they will eat no problem but they just seem scared of going into the house . be grateful for any advice. these are not the first hens i have had but they are the first point of lays ive bought. bobby blackheart 1,209 Posted April 9, 2012 Report Share Posted April 9, 2012 sounds a strange one that-try putting 1 or 2 birds in and see if the others will follow-my English Bantams wont go in the shed when it is light outside-so i have perches 6 ft from ground to keep em safe from charlie-they go in on their own when its dark though.Maybe they scared of heights lol.Do they have enough room and enough perches to roost?Maybe they will come round in a few days-What time do you let/lock them up?Are you sure they are POL-they giving you eggs? robbo 879 Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 9, 2012 there is plenty of room in the roost as its an old kids play house on stilts. not getting eggs yet but ive only had them a week. like you say they may be a bit younger than they claim [ the seller ,not the hens lol. we all know females lie about their age]but they were strong on their legs from day one.i will catch them up and shut them in for a week or so. thanks for the help,bry Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Well that's how I've always done it with incubator hatched chicks to ex battery's and after about 3-4 days they all go in by themselves, so in my experience it saves time, Cheers fd.
