the day had come for Sonic to be tested

Recommended Posts

My son and I went out to check if Sonic was still steady with the sheep,2 weeks ago he took down a few goats for us and I have to admit I thought it might be his sheep nemesis,he was always steady as a rock to them and after the force he used on the goats I thought he cant be stock steady after this.Well We walked him through a field of yews and lambs today and thank christ he didnt even blink an eye.I had a bet on with kevin that the dog would be fairly unsteady,I now owe him a tattoo in the next 10 days, his first tattoo also.He went on toi call me a pesimist and had no faith in his dogs abilities :cray::huh: HE WAS RIGHT OF COURSE,LOL.A few photos to conclude the tale.

I think that it also has something to do with exactly where the dogs sees the animals. If he's not used to seeing the goats on grass fields, he's not expecting them and not in hunting mode. Does he meet sheep up on the hills along with goats or not?

It's still good to see how steady a hunting dog can be in the right hands.

skycat I was out 2 weeks ago and shot 3 goats,I had taz the kelpie but not Sonic. At one time we were walking a ridge when from out of nowhere a sheep burst in front of us and leged it into the distance,I thought to myself, would sonic have given chase and I cant be one hundred per cent sure he wouldnt. He did although take after a sheep on the heather in a different place and once he realised it was a sheep he pulled up straight away without a word from me.My heart was in my mouth for a time though.Saying all this a dog is still only as good as his last outing so im going to stick him amongst them again for the summer, hopefully he should be perfectly steady for another wwhile yet.ROCKY dont speak too soon, lol. Thanks BB. GrCh its quiet easy once you bring them out from 12 weeks old on,the pup is tiny the sheep is huge, they always have reservations about geting too close in case the sheep attacks  of course the pup doesnt realise the sheep will never attack. As they get older they have that respect instilled into them and that stands to them for their working life.............OF COURSE THIS COULD ALSO BE A LOAD OF SHIT BUT THATS MY METHOD ANYWAY :D
