lanesra 4,007
Fortunate to have plenty of hare's in my vicinity and what an honour it is to just sit and watch them this time off yr , the way they act this time off yr while trying to pair off makes them vunerable , my terrier could catch them now (thats a figure off speech), also leverets about so anyone killing hare's this time off yr is ridiclous and not testing ! jcm 2,327
Got a dog here took his first big bunny (day time) at 10 month old. Not off a slip either pushed it up him self give decent chase 21tts. My point is smaller dogs are not ideal hare dogs but are still capable of taken them in winter. Pre ban of course as the law prevents such a great sport. Quote Link to post

Aye, but "pushed it up himself" means he hunted it up, and the hare had f**k all law, so it's not quite the same as killing a good hare, with decent law. At the end of the day most lurchers with a decent chunk of sight hound should be able to kill a hare that has got up in front of it's nose, but with decent law, most lurchers will have used up too much juice getting up on the hare and breaking its straight run, to then do the rest of the job. Hence the saluki blood etc. jmo. Edited March 15, 2012 by Ideation 1 Quote Link to post
